ARRIVALS Mr. and Mrs. Rrmnn R. Johnson,' 907 Harrison street, are tho parents of a baby girl born at the Adams county memorial hospital Friday evening at 10:20 o’clock. The baby weighed six pounds and eight ounces. — o— —-— — IN MEMORY OF HONORABLE E. BURT LENHART Decstur, Indiana To the members of the Adams County Bar Association: We, your committee, appointed to draft a memorial on the life of E. Burt Lenhart, submit the following: , | While the members of tho Adams County Bar Association how in humble submission to tho decree of the Divine Will removing from us our friend and associate. Mr. lamhart, we do so with a deep and understanding sense of the loss we have sustained. For over forty years Mr. lionhart ho. occupied a high place in the affection and confidence ot the people of our county. Entrusted with both public and private duties he was faithful in all. No word can be uttered against his honor or integrTty. He was always right, ns the right seemed to him, and with all the intense earnestness of a great soul. Mr. Lenhart was born at Peterson. in Adams county, Indiana, on the Ist day of October 1871, a son of John Lenhart and Tille StevensLenhart. His elementary education was obtained in the common schools of the county, and his higher training in the high school at Decatur, and the Tri State Normal at Angola. Indiana. In the year 1892 his father was elected clerk of the Adams Circuit Court, and during the years 1893-1899 he served as Deputy clerk for his father. While so acting as deputy clerk he spent his spare time in the study of law. On February 6th 1897 he was admitted to practice law by the Adams Circuit Court, upon the recommendation of the following well known lawyers: J. R. Bo bo, Shaffer Peterson. John T. France, C. M. France, R. K. Erwin, David E Smith, James F. Mann, R. S. Petersen. J. T. Merryman, Clark J. Lutz, P. L. Andrews. Paul G. Hooper, Lewis C. DeVoss, W H. Reed and J. W Teeple. In 1903 Mr. Lenhart formed a partnership with Paul G. Hoopet and engaged in the general practice of law under the firm name of Hooper and Lenhart; this firm continued until the death of Mr. Hooper in November 1918. Immediately thereafter Mr. Lenhart formed a partnership with Henry B. Heller under the firm name of Lenhart and Heller which firm continued until April 1926 when Fred T. Schurger became a member of the firm and the name was changed to Lenhart, Heller and Schumer; this firm continued until the death of Mr. Lenhart. During the years he was engag ed in the practice of law Mr. Lenhart was candid with his client, untiring in his efforts for his client’s interest, honest with the court and his fellow members of the bar. On October Ist 1892 Mr. Lenhart was married to Miss Martha h. Johnson who survives him. Their home was blest with three child ren, Mrs. Velma Lenhart-Bowman. Mr Orval Leuhart, and Miss Alice Lenhart who has served for the past eight years as deputy county treasurer. Mr. Lenhart was a man of fine character; he was modest and unassuming; he was kind hearted and of generous impulse, and was possessed of a happy disposition. With tho exception ot the time he was in college. Mr. Lenhart spent his entire life in Adams county, Indiana, and the ties of love, of sadness, of joy, ot adversities. and of success bound him to this county. Here he spent his happy childhood days; here he attended school; here he united with I and for years served and faithfully | attended his church; here he married; here he reared his children of all of whom he was justly I proud; here he followed his chosien profession; here he worked for the common welfare of the community in all its various educational. industrial, and religious affairs- here on the sth day of January 1938 he died; here today his loved ones, his neighbors, his friends, and his associates wiH meet and pay their last tribute to him, and here they will tenderly bury him in a grave near those of his father and mother in the Decatur Cemetery. Therefore, be it resolved by the Adams County Bar Association, that we will cherish the memory of E Burt Lenhart as a goo® friend, as a good neighbor, as d good citizen, and as a good mam and that we tender to his family our sincere condolence. f i Respectfully submitted: / ; Ferd L.
