BOBBITT TELLS G. 0, P. PLANS I' New State Chairman Outlines Program For Republicans J (Copyright. 1937, by United Press) Indianapolis. Ind., Nov. 19 —(UP) Arch N. Bobbitt, the new republican . state chairman, leaned back in his I office chair today, lighted his pipe and revealed to the United Prese his five-point program for revitalizing the Republican party in Ind- , Sana. The youthful, smiling, former state auditor listed as his primary , objectives: 1. A vigorous drive to bring as many young people as possible to active service in the G. O. P ranks. 2. Recapturing the "Normal support” which organized labor has given the Republican partv until the New Deal. 3. Formation of an executive committee of “15 or 16” persons to serve as a policy-making body and share the burden of work with him. Bobbitt said he probably would divulge the names of some of the committee, members Saturday or Sunday. 4. A money-raising campaign to put the party's finances in order and retire the present indebtedness of "about $15,000.” 5. Employment of a publicity director to present the Republican party's case intelligently, forcefully and accurately. Bobbitt faces in the 1933 campaign a powerful democratic organization with ample finances and plenty or patronage. Starting with one congressman, a small minority in the state legislature and Republican c<x-"ol of a comparative handful of cities and counties, Bobbitt Literally must buiid from the ground up to restore the G. O. P. ] fortunes, which he admitted were at a "low ebb.” “Is there any truth in the rumor that the Republicans are merely going to go through the motions of a 1938 campaign and save their energies for 1940?" he was asked. None at all,” he said. “I believe we should make as strenuous a 1938 campaign as possible. If we can make some gains next year—a few congressmen for example — that puts us in a much better position ' f success n 1940.” “How do you feel about the state committee? Do you believe that factional differences have been settled and the party united for the next campaign?” “I'm glad you asked that,” he replied. “I feel absolutely certain that | if the committee were called into session tomorrow there would be no question of its support of the pa question of its support of the party’s leadership.” o SEN.
