ARE REPORTED Each Case In County Courts Os State Cost $32.53 Indianapolis, Nov. 12. —KU.R> —The Indiana judicial council reported today that 68.615 cases were dis-i posed of last year in the state s county courts at an average cost of $32.53. Total operating expenses for the courts amounted to $2,232,347. or a per capita cost of 69 cents, it was revealed. County courts heard 21 cases for i every 1,000 of population. This J did not include municipal courts, 1 city courts or justice of the peace courts. The court survey was made by Harry D. Weller, statistician for the judicial council. He found that the state's 417 justices of the peace disposed of 10,645 criminal cases and 22,809 i civil cases last year. A large peri centage of the criminal cases in justice courts resulted from traffic and motor law’ violations, of which there were 5,602. Drunken- ' ness accounted for 1,811 and assault and battery for 669. Marion county had the lowest per capita cost, 10 cents, of any ! courts in the state. High per cap-! ita cost counties were Hancock with $1.09; Fayette, $1.02 and* Blackford and Starke counties. sl. Lake county’s per capita cost was , 98 cents. Porter county had the highest] percentage of cases with 52 for every 1,000 of population. Ripley and Switzerland counties had the lowest number of cases with only seven per 1,000.
