I antees that industrial unions will be recognized and that It a membership will not be split up Into craft unions. It was generally believed that i these demands might prove Insuper- ■ able, however, and that the preliminary peace conference scheduled ' Monday between the warring fa<'tlona nould there ore fall. i Me,. .while, it was learned that a , ninority group within the federa- . ibn had conceived the idea of a i »ea<e meeting tw« days 'before the A. F. of L. received an invitation 1 to such a conference from the C. I. | O. |t This group, it was reliably report- il

ed, had offered to remove William Green as A. F. of L. preside”, if necessary to pave the way to peace. The Monday meeting will constitute a preliminary gathering of two small committees: 10 from the C. I. O. and three from the A. F. of L. The C. I. O. will insist that a joint nity conference” be called and tl.at largo committees be chosen by each side —preferably of 100 each. Should the federation accede in this request prospects of peace would be considerably enhanced. Best informed sources believe negotiations will drag out for several months with both sides afraid to | be responsible for breaking them

! off. The following issues aro clear: 1. The A. F. of L. demand" That ' any reunion be accomplished "under the banner of the American federation of labor” is acceptable to |the C. 1. O. if other requests are met. 2. There is no desiie on the part of the (’. I. O. te> oust Green. 3. The C. I. O. will ask that the press be admitted to conferences to place all issues squarely before the public. The A. F. of L. has not made known its attitude on this point. 4. It is generally felt that Jurisdictional disputes which would fol-

| low reamalgamation could be resolved In the process of tlrno If the main isue is met satisfactorily. 5. The main Issue, to the C. I. O. is the same as it was two years j ago when John U Lewis led the secession Industrial unionism. The federation last week voted down a resolution at its convention that industrial charters be granted. If the conferences fail, Lewis plans to call the first national C. I. O. convention. He was voted authejity to do this at a meeting of his union leaders in Atlantic City last week. In edition. Lewis plans to reorganize his labor’s non-partisan league to fight the A. F. of L. on the political front. This process has i already begun and it was learned that the first of a series of charters will be granted shortly to local league units. They pledge support of farmers and "Independent labor political action." Illness Os Attorney Causes Continuance The suit to collect an account brought by George L. Kern against the General Ice Machine Company, Inc., of this city was contiuned today because of the illness of D. Burdette Custer, attorney for the defense. The jury met this morning to bear the case but was dismissed. Mrs. C. E. Dugan, Mrs. J. S. Kocher. Mrs. Julius Haugk, Mrs. M. A. Frisinger and Mrs. G. O. Walton attended the Preebyterial !n Fort Wayne Thursday.
