The stock market is still shaky and as usual the sucker who buys on margins is the goat. The mar- ! ket has been dull for several weeks ' and those who make it their bus- 1 iness grew tired of breaking even, it seems. —■ l Drivers of cars should observe 1 the stop signs and the start and go < signals religiously. If the great 1 majority do this, it will make more; ! noticeable those who do not. The ‘ battle to save lives in traffic must go on until a victory is won. ______ “The Bride Wakes Up” will 1 please you and the ladies are especially invited to attend this free picture show which is not only interesting but will prove surprisingly helpful to those who want to provide good things for the family Jo eat. The Lilly Hill farm south of this city was sold at auction for eighty dollars an acre, a price considerably larger than it would have brought a year ago, an indication i of the increased value in farm lands in this county. You can still buy real estate for less than its worth and we know of no safer or better investment. »The Cincinnati Reds are now under the temporary management of Bobby Wallace, a conference having resulted in the dismissal of Charley Dressen, regular manager and Coaches Shcclmn and Kelly. The fans have been expecting something of the sort but it came so suddenly that they are inclined to believe the hearing was a rather lively one. The school enrollment in the city of Fort Wayne is 421 less than last year and a proportionate decline in enrollment is shown in nearly every city, a development that may solve many of the demands for additional school buildings. If the population of children declines, the demands for school facilities will drop with it, which is something “else to think about. Thanks are due those citizens who this week are serving on the tax adjustment board. A tough job with no pay and little appreciation from those whom they serve. The board is composed of splendid citizens who are patriotic CHANGE OF ADDRESS Subscribers are requested to give old and new address when ordering paper changed from one address to another. i For example: If you change your address > from Decatur R. enough to give their time, effort I and ability to making the tax rates in Adams county as fair as they can be in compliance with the state laws. There can be no defense for I drunken driving and those who so ■ engage should be punished and should be prevented by further law violations of that kind by losing their driving licenses. The fight against violations of traffic laws and ordinances must go on until those inclined to speed or otherwise drive recklessly, are taught that society will not tolerate it. It is too dangerous for every one. ——■ — —> Senator VanNuys seems to take it for granted that he is being assailed, although so far as we have learned. Governor Townsend and his lieutenants have not men- i tioned his name. They have asserted that the employes of the state should be loyal to the administrtion and the senator seems to think they can't be that and for hint. Just why, will probably develop as the campaign proceeds, and that will be the primary issue. The death of little Elaine Mattax from infantile paralysis and streptoccic infection of the throat is a shock to the community and should arouse every parent to the need of the greatest care and attention. This was the only case in the city and according to the physicians, there have been no new cases the i past three weeks. It is hoped the cooler weather has aided in the f fight against the disease which has proven one of the most difficult ailments to combat ever known. The fitness of Justice Hugo Black of Alabama to act as a member of the supreme court is again being brought to the front as a result of the hot primary fights now in progress in New York City, the charge being that he is a life member of the Ku Klux Klan. So far he hasn't affirmed or denied the accusation, which it seems should have been proved or disproved be-' fore his confirmation by the senate. This is a great country for, politics. As Andy would say, “if it ain’t one thing, it's the same thing.” THE PEOPLE ARE FOR ROOSEVELT: In asking for loyalty to the Democratic party. Dick Heller, secretary to the Governor, asked for loyalty to the majority of the people of the state.' There is no mistaking their desires and wishes in three campaigns. An increased vote of en-, dorsement and of favor came with election. The people showed that they trusted in Roosevelt, trusted in his judgment, trusted, most of I all, in his essential honesty of purpose. As far as the influence of any . person employed by the state, that . influence should be exerted in behalf of the things for which ths people had voted. They resent the charges and implications that Roosevelt had used political trickery, had sought personal power, had been dishonest in purpose and in practices, in de-1 manding reforms. The people resent the making of charges which, if true, should have been followed by impeachment. They do not believe that Roosevelt is either a knave or a fool. The people ask that no handicaps be placed in the way of the President. They want no obstacles against the reforms he seeks. They demand aid. not hindrance, in the big fight Which is pitted against the forces of organized wealth and special privilege. That, says Dick, is what the party in Indiana stands for and in which Governor Townsend believes. One does not keep in of-1 flee those who, in a crucial eiec-1 tion, give aid to enemies. The coming election Is too important to permit that. o Annual Hobo Dance Tonight■ Sunset, Free Soup, Cash Prize'

occupied with domestic problems. Any power which provoked an outbreak now would be relying on a quick and overwhelming Thrust to accomplish their objective. But none of the newly mobilized army units, bombing squadrons, flame throwers, tanks and other modem military devices have shown sufficient efficiency to indicate that they would spell early defeat for an enemy.
