One of the main hopes for rescue of Sigismund Levaneffsky. “the Russian Lindbergh", and his four companions, lost on a flight in the 1 polar wastes while flying from Moscow to San Francisco, is Jimmy Mattern veteran flyer, and his Co-Pilot H. S. Jones. They took off 11 from Los Angeles for Fairbanks. Alaska, and then started a series of search flights between there and the North Pole in an attempt to find the missing Soviet airmen. Four years ago Levaneffsky rescued Mattern when the latter was forced down in Siberia on a 'round-the-world flight.
