Hut Chairman John B M. Hamilton of the Republican national committee had no comment. Form- ■ er Gov. Alf M. Landon, the 1936 G. O. P. presidential nominee, was silent. Observers interpreted this »!1ence to mean either that the Lan don-Hatullton organization had not been consulted or that they had fore-knowledge of the Hoover plan and suspected the former president of an attempt to lift the nominal party leadership from them. Gov. Landon and Hoover will ' meet next month in Illinois as guests of Frank 0. Lowden and from that conference may emerge [ some agreement on method of unit- 1 tng the leadership in a common drive against the Roosevelt admin istration. There were indications here. 1 however, that the Landon-Hamll . ton organization and the general ' run of Republican congressmen would balk at a "one-man" Repub- ' lican show in the guise of a party get-together. Hoover never has re- j established his political prestige j with party leaders and there is no ' disposition to hand the G. O.
