Greetings To Decatur's 1937 Street Fair, Agricultural and Livestock Show t f I he McMillen industries again show their confidence in Decatur and the surrounding area, as Indiana's outstanding agricultural center by the new construction work which is in progress at the plants. This is the fourth consecutive summer during which substantial additions and expansions have been made.

Central SugarCompany, lnc. Sparkling Crystal White Sugar is made here in Decatur at Indiana's only sugar refinery by the Central Sugar Company, Inc. in co-operation with the Central Beet Growers Association representing some 1,500 farmers in this vicinity. Although last season's output was close to 25,000,000 lbs. of sugar that amount is less than one-tenth of the sugar consumed in Indiana. It is estimated that for every 100 lbs. of Sparkling Crystal White Sugar produced, eight hours of labor is required. On this basis nearly two million hours of employment were provided to the workers of the Decatur area last year. Mr. D. W. McMillen who established the Central Sugar Company in 1933 is keenly aware of the company’s opportunity to serve the community by providing a ready market for the beet crop, by increasing farm values, and by helping the farmer in every possible way to take advantage of the opportunities nature has given him.

Central Soya Company, Inc. Soybeans have become an Increasingly important crop to farmers in this state. Processing soybeans for oil and meal is a rapidly growing industrial outlet providing farmers with a ready cash market for their soybeans. The plant of the Central Soya Company, Inc. located here in Decatur is the largest in the state. It has a capacity that can absorb all the marketable beans that have ever been harvested in Indiana and for the last crop year Indiana was the second largest soybean producing state in the entire country. The soybean crop already has to its credit an amazing number of uses although it is still an infant major crop. No other crop offers equal possibilities of linking together agriculture and industry. Prices for this important legume are and will continue to be controlled by the demand for soy oil and soybean oil meal with every present indication that the demand for these products will expand rather than decline. The Central Soya Company was established by Mr. D. W. McMillen in the Fall of 1934. Every season since has seen its continued growth.

McMillen Feed Mills, Inc. Master Mix Feeds, made under the supervision of animal and poultry experts of McMillen Feed Mills, Inc. are becoming increasingly important to poultry and livestock feeders in this and nearby states.
