COMMIES LOSE TO HUNTINGTON TUESDAY NIGHT' Huntington Catholic Scores Second Win Os Season Over Locals (By 808 SHRALUKA) Once again Huntington Catholic, proved too tough for the Decatur Commodores, when they defeated! the locals on the Huntington floor I Tuesday night, to the tune of 32-1 22. For nearly two-thirds of the ball j game, the relentless Commies dog-i ged the heels of the team that only* a few nights ago had held the St. Mary's of Anderson state champs to a one-point win. Had Lady Luck Smiled a little on the basket-tossing aces of the local combination the flnul score might have been noticeably different. During the first half of the game the five Commie regulars were continually dishing the net with shots that would have ordinarily rung the bell, only to see them fall to either side. Huntington, while also missing plenty of opportunities, was able to run up six points during the first quarter, while the locals solaced themselves with the fact that they had possession of the ball a greater portion of the time. During the second stanza, which ended 5-12. for Huntington. goals by Gilliß and Voglewede and a foul by the latter, kept the locals still in the running. South Side has made a splendid record this season under the tutelage of Burl Friddle, forin--ler Franklin high school and college star, who is spending his second season at the Fort Wayne school. —oOo—- — Archers are as yet undefeated in Northeastern Indiana conference competition, having won six starts, with only Decatur and Central yet to play. The Yellow Jackets have copped five conference engagements, losing only to Central. Friday night's game will be a battle for second place. —oOo — Saturday night, the Yellow Jackets will journey to New Haven to meet Paul White’s Bulldogs. The Jackets nosed out a 23-20 victory over New Haven early in the season. Many local fans are expected to attend the game, with the added incentive of seeing New Haven's new gymnasium, which has a seating capacity of more than 2.500. —oOo — The Decatur Commodores suffered their second defeat of the season at the hands of Huntington Catholic Tuesday night, losing l on the Huntington floor. 32 to 22. 1 Another game of interest locally played last night, with St. Mary’s of Anderson defeating Central Catholic of Fort Wayne at AnderI son, 27 to 19. —oOo— The Commodores have only two games left on the regular schedule, with the final home game of the season scheduled for next Tuesday, February 16, with St. Paul’s of Marion appearing here.
