And don't you always enjoy their - hospitality, not alone tor the pleasure an evening in their home affords, but because you always go away with clever ideas on how to make your own home more attractive; your own hospitality more I gracious? I . .... —I *■— - - - ‘ Encouraged by the success of New York’s drive on racketeering, headed by brilliant Prosecutor Thomas Dewey, other cities are considering similar tactics. Now investigating the shakedown activities of the underworld which annually exempts millions from New York business men for “protection”, Dewey is gunning for the political “higherups” allegedly connected with the racket. Backed by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia, Dewey has cleaned up various phases of criminal activity, climaxing his drive against the powerful ring preying on the public through the policy game and prostitution by convicting Charles (Lucky) Luciano and his henchmen.

'of liquor by drug stores, permit I roadhouses on a limited scale, and ' perhaps legalize liquor sales on : Sunday in border cities. Most of the “pet” measures in- ] troduced despite Gov. M. Clifford ; Townsend's request that legislation i be held to a minimum reportedly i were slated to die in committee. One of them is a proposal to appropriate $1,000,000 for a northern branch of Indiana University in Lake county. Others include a measure to rei quire industrial plants to be closied in case of a strike or lockout; I changes in the petty loan interest rates; proposed 30-hour work week; establishment of a proposed $3,000 exemption on residential property; re-distribution oi gasoline tax funds. All day and perhaps night sessions were contemplated to push ■ through such “must” legisltaion as Townsend’s proposal for creation i;of a state labor department, the . i biennial budget appropriation, and . j a highway safety program. •; One of the amendments to the ■ liquor law proposed by the northvein Indiana tavern proprietors
' would force sale of liquor by the j drink in 62 towns that now prohibit them or would bar completely sale of any kind of alcoholic beverage in those communities. The single license, to cost S7OO regardless of seating capacity and other mutters now taken into consideration, would be effective in all . ... , . i-i-.- -.'i'.-J i‘.'\ third class cities. Those counties are Marion, Madison. Lake, Vanderburg, Allen. Delaware, St. Joseph. Vigo, Elkhart, Howard, Tippecanoe, Grant, Floyd, Lal’orte, and Wayne. A reduction in the gross income . tax rate for retailers is to be proposed by Sen. Arthur L. Deniston, D., Rochester, when the legislature meets next week. Deniston estimated the reduction would cut $4,500,000 annually from the gross income tax revenue but believed the reduction would eliminate “chiseling.” POOR COMPLEXIONS OFTEN TRACED TO CONSTIPATION An unattractive, sallow skin and dull, lifeless eyes often mean that common constipation has clogged up your system. You feel wretched ; - and listless, may have headaches, i This condition is usually the re- j suit of meals low in “bulk.” Re- j store this “bulk” with Kellogg’s I All-Bran. Within the body, All-Bran ab- - sorbs twice its weight in water, \ forms a soft mass, gently exercises and cleanses the system. Isn’t this cereal way better than taking - weakening pills and drugs?
