WaBOL It I ■ D iH> Petri Decatur’s Yellow Jackets will engage in their first northeastern Indiana conference game of the season tonight, battling the Redskins from North Side of Fort Wayne on the local floor. —oOo —- The Yellow Jackets, after winning their first four games of the season, suffered their first defeat last week to the LaPorte Slicers at LaPorte. North Side looms as tough again this season, as the Redskins held the powerful Central Tigers of Fort Wayne to a four-point victory last week. The invaders scored a 31- | 23 victory over the Yellow Jackets last season. —o()o— The Decatur Commodores will travel out of the state tonight, journeying to Delphos. Ohio, to meet St. John’s high. The Buckeyes have a veteran team this season and the Commodores probably will be hard pressed to come home with a victory. —oOo — The Commodores defeated St. John’s twice last season, by scores of 40 to 29 and 22 to 18. Delphos has practically the same team as last season, and recently scored a fairly decisive win over St. John's of Lima at Lima. Three game sare scheduled for other Adams county teams tonight. The Berne Bears will journey to Celina. Ohio; Monroe and Kirkland will clash at Kirkland and Jefferson will play at Hartford township. —oOo— Adams county’s lone undefeated team fell by the wayside this week, the Geneva Cardinals losing to the Petroleum Panthers. 26 to 17. The game was played at Petroleum, having been changed from Geneva as the latter’s gym is not yet completed. Cooperation of school officials with the Daily Democrat in gi/ing basketball information to the hundreds of basketball fans in Adams county is again asked by this columnist. Basketbawl thoroughly appreciates the cooperation shown by most of the coaches and principals of the county, but there still are a few of the schools which fail to send in reports of their games. LANDIS RULING I A COMPROMISE Says Cleveland Violated .Agreement But Can Keep Feller New York, Dec. 11. —(U.RF~The case of the 70-year-old ex-judge and the 18-year-old schoolboy pitching phenomenon seemed likely to have far-reaching repercussions in the baseball world today. Kenesaw Mountain Landis, baseball’s one-man supreme court, ruled Robert Feller, the brilliant young strikeout king, the property of the Cleveland Indians. Landis made the easy decision, one calculated to please all —the Indians and other major league clubs. Des Moines the complaining club, and j even Feller and his father who ■ executed the original contract be-j cause his son was a minor. The judge admitted in his decision that Cleveland violated the major-mitt-: or agreement. Bflt the only pen- ■ alty he meted out was the award > of $7,500 to be paid to Des Moines by Cleveland. Landis established that the In-1 dians violated the rules governing the signing of sandlot players when he said in his decision: “It turns out in reality Fargo-, Moorhead had nothing whatever to do with signing Feller, which was done by the Cleveland club, its agent Slapnicka, using a minor league contract because he could not sign him to a Cleveland contract.” In justifying his decision, Landis said: “So far as Des Moines, the comRIVER V I E W GARDENS Presenting 6-piece Orchestra And FLOOR SHOW EVERY SATURDAY NITE SHORT ORDERS and SANDWICHES DINE andDANCE

In other words. Landis deemed it considerably safer to leave Feli ler with Cleveland and prevent the biggest auction sale in baseball annals than to declare him a i free agent as the facts called for. But in doing this Landis seemingI ly stripped Himself of some of his ! authority as baseball's czar. No | longer is he the autocratic comi missioner.
