FELLER CASE. PLAYER TRADES HOLD INTEREST Dizzy Dean Trade At Standstill; Refuse $200,000 ..J— i Montreal, Que.. Dec. 3 — (U.R) -| The leading roles on the lmseh.ill stage were accorded today to silver-haired Kenesaw Mountain Ltvtdis, Bill Terry, pilot of the New York Glanta. and .1. Louis Comiskey, owner of the Chicago White Sox. Imndis arrived from Chicago to address the gathering of minor leaguers at their 35th annual convention, bringing with him the unsolved Bob Feller case. The commissioner holds the answer to baseball's most baffling question; whether Feller, 19-year-old pitchling sensation, belongs to the Cleveland Indians, or his signing violated a rule that will make him a free agent. It is unlikely that Landis will announce his decision until after the major league meetings in New York next week. Terry. 48 hours overdue, holds the key to trading activities in the National league. If and when he shows up. Terry may start the ball rolling on several deals. The Ilizzy Dean trade is at a standstill after the Cardinals' refusal of $200,000 cash from the Cincinnati Reds for the garrulous pitching Bdce. President Stoneham refuses to dicuss Dizzy Dean except

But Terry, a, shrewd trader who got 1 the best of Branch Rickey last * year in the Roy Parmelee-Bnigees ’ Whitehead deal, is expected to 1 make Rickey come down to earth ’ if he really wants to trade Dean. 1 The Giants definitely want Dean ’ to regain favor with New York 1 fans as a result of their shellack- 1 ing at the hands of the Yankees f in the world series. Three clubs are seeking outfield- r er Hank Leiber. Cincinnati seems i to have the inside track for the t big Giant patrolman, with Brook- t lyn and the Cubs also in the bidd- i ing. f Comiskey, who arrived last night, is in a position to swing r deals for the up and coming Chi- j cago White Sox for the first time , in 16 years. WOULD OPENLY PAY ATHLETES Public Subsidization To Be Submitted To Big Ten Chicago, Dec. 3. —(U.RF-The University of Wisconsin today prepared u plea to the Big Ten to recognize Its bold plan for helping athletes in the midst of the loudest clamor for open subsidization In western conference history. With the so-called Reynolds plan up for approval by conference faculty representatives tomorrow, Wisconsin hoped to drive the first Wedge in the campaign to promote free discussion of “college professionalism.” There is little chance the Big Ten will sanction the idealistic plan outlined by Roltert L. Reynolds, youthful professor of medieval history. It calls for an alumni- 1 financed summer institute at which I selected students will be graded' in studies and athletics and award-' eu scholarships on the basis of these results. This defies a conference rule prohibiting athletic, scholarships. An unofficial United Press roll' revealed that several schools plan-
ned to oppose even the training table, a far milder aid to athletes than the Reynolds plan. The training table has been voted down be- i fore. Reynolds' argument, however.' may bring to a head tne proselyting bugaboo usually approached in whispered sessions. Back of him stands the University of Wisconsin faculty which approved his plan although with “moderation and considerable misgivings." Wisconsin's athletic director, Harry Stuhldreher, and his aides were expected to remain in the background, since the plan is original with Reynolds. At least two other Big Ten campuses have become battlegrounds over the training table and modified subsidization. The Michigan Student Daily criticized the Big Ten for not permftting training tables, while the Daily Maroon of the University of Chicago attacked the Reynolds plan and later carried an interview with players demanding that Chicago “turn professional or quite the conference.” This controversy drove other details of the annual winter meeting into the background. Also up for approval will be the 1937 football schedule and athletic heads will draw up spring schedules for track, golf, swimming, baseball, gymnastics, wrestling, and tennis. , Coaches likely will consider only one football rule change—modifying the present code on forward pass interference. o CYO League Will Open Play Tonight The basketball league of the Catholic Youth organization of this city will start at 8 o'clock tonight at the Commodore gymnasium. Four teams are entered in the CYO league. • CKO officials also plan girls’ basketball and a city volleyball league, if such can b? arranged. The CYO team will play a team . from Van Wert. Ohio, as a preliminary to the Commodores-St. Mary's of Anderson game Friday night at the local gym. This game is to start at 7 o’clock, with the main go at 8:15. o Trade in a Good Town — Decatur
