We protest against this prosecution of a noble race and we are against this autocrat |in Germany who has oppressed I that race. We will continue our I boycott in order to- impress upon J him the strength of trade union-; Jism and to emphasize to the Ger/man people the unity of workers." G. 11. Brunet, Canadian fraternal delegate, told the convention Can-' ada had a keen interest in the welfare of the United States and that labor had a large share of responjsibility in maintaining harmony between the two nations. "The hopes of the majority of the Canadian workers," he said, “are that these conditions will continue for many more decades.” He said workers of Canada were greatly interested in the internal I strife in the A. F. of I*. and ex--1 pressed "sincere hope that away will be found amicably to settle this difficulty.” Kean, representing the British trade union congress, said the number of trade unionists in Great Britain is increasing at the rate of 100,000 a year. 0 _ , , REBELS THREATEN (CONTINUEp FHOM PAGE ONB) ment leaders, horrified by the slaughter wreaked by nationalist bombing airplanes, considered today a plan for evacuation of every woman and child from the capital. It was proposed to leave none but men in the city for a fight to death against the nationalists in which quarter would neither be given nor asked. The task was a gigantic one, in a city of nearly 1,500,000. But to the threat that thousands iof women and children mfght be I torn to pieces by bombs was addied the threat of starvation. The city's food supply is perilously low. Restaurants began hanging out “no food left” signs last night. Babies cried vainly today for milk as their mothers, huddled in doorways, sheltered them from the cold and the misty rain. So urgent w-as the situation regarded that it was even suggested in official quarters that the nationalists be asked to pass through their lines special trains bearing women, children, and aged men. But to all effect, the mass evacuation already was under way. All through the night motor busses, i mobilized by the defense council, were leaving the city for the east coast with women and children. A special commission was organized to go to the coast and seek food supplies. The new loyalist air fleet took to the air again at dawn to watch I for nationalist raiding planes.
