The Genera! Electric Company congratulates Decatur on its record of achievement upon the occasion of its Centennial celebration. This Company is proud of any part it may have played in the progress and achievements of Decatur; and it voices its appreciation of the spirit of cooperation and friendliness displayed by the citizens of this community.. It will endeavor to merit a continuation of these pleasant relations. We believe that the Decatur Plant of the General E'ectric Company is a decided factor in the civic life of the community, and that it plays an important part in the happiness and prosperity of Decatur residents. A recent survey, reveals that more than 65 per cent of all persons employed in Decatur industries are G. E. employees. At the present time more than 1.200 individuals—employees and their families —obtain their livelihood from the Decatur Works.

These 1,200 men, women and children are your friends, and your neighbors. They are responsible citizens who help to carry the burden of community life. They, and the Company they represent, contribute their share to local taxes and to civic and charitable activities. The wages and salaries they receive find their way into local channels of trade for food, clothing, shelter and the merchandise of Decatur tradesmen. GENERAL ELECTRIC in Decatur—a few statistics Since the Decatur Plant was placed in operation the total wages paid amount to approximately $5,400,000. Payments of Free and Additional Life Insurance have totalled approximately $60,000. Unemployment payments have been made amounting to approximately $65,000 thereby helping to reduce the community’s relief burden. Payments for taxes, transportation, electric power, gas, and water made at Decatur have amounted to approximately $1,110,000.
