Commodores Win Second Game In Catholic Mee
COMMIES BEAT COLORADO FIVE IN TOURNAMENT Decatur Leads Ail The Way To Defeat Walsenburg. Colorado (Special to The Democrat) Chicago. Mar. 20.—The Commodores from Decatur, Indiana, this afternoon advanced to the quarterfinals of the national Catholic tour ney by defeating St. Mary's of Walsenburg, Colorado, 32 to 24. ’ Holding only a slight lead of 15 to 13 at the end of the first half, the Commodores stepped out in impressive fashion in the third quarter to take a commanding lead and maintain a safe margin until the final gun fired. By virtue of their victory this afternoon, the Commodores will play St. George of Evanston, one <4 the favorites to eop the tourney, in a quarter-final tilt at. 2 p. m. (EST) Saturday. St. George today defeated Columbia of Dubuque. lowa. 36 to 29. All three Indiana entries are still in the running for the national title. Memorial of Evansville defeating Our Lady of Victory, Lackawanna. N. Y„ 36 to 30. St. Mary's of Anderson will play its second game tonight. Braden was again high scorer for Decatur, connecting for five field goals to pace the Commodores with 10 points. Don Hess tallied nine points and Murphy eight. Theater Installs New Sound System Installation of the newest, most modern sound reproducing system was completed at the Adams theater today, with A. L. Moore, sound engineer of South Bend, in charge of the work. The new equipment, incorporating r.’l the latest improvements in sound engineering, is able to reproduce the wide-range type of film recording. This means a range of from 50 to 10.000 cycles, which includes the lowest notes of a large organ, to the highest notes of a lyric, soprano. In order that the new nystetn may have the greatest effectiveness. a battery of three of the most modern type speakers ha.s been installed behind the Adams theater screen. The new sound equipment is the same kind that is being installed in man}- of the largest theaters throughout the country, and is the first of its kind in the state of Indiana.
