INDIANA SHOWS GOOD INCREASE Increase Os 13 Per Cent Shown In Indiana Business Volume Indianapolis, Feb. 28. (U.R) A 13 per cent increase in Indiana business volume in 1935 as com pared with 1934 was shown today in a statistical report of the state gross income tax department. The report was based on n stir j vey of annual income tax payments | of 74 diversified businesses. In ' come of the surveyed groups to ! tailed $303,235,243 in 1935 as compared with $286,309,653 for 1934. Not only are the concerns mak I ing business strides, but the vol ' time of returns indicates approx.-, mutely 50.0(10 persons and bus j incases' receiving less than SI.OOO 1 in 1934 entered the sl,ooo-or-better | class in 1935, the report showed. , Twenty-two retail concerns merchandising a wide variety of pro-1 ducts reported income of approximately $94,000,000 in 1934 as com pared with $101,000,000 in 1935, a gain of nearly 7.5 per cent. Food stores showed an improvement of 6.7 per cent while other establishments gained 7.8 per cent A group of wholesale concerns selected at random showed a gain : of nearly 12 per cent. Receipts of eight railroads and: traction lines jumped from $8,724. ; 161 in 1934 to $9,671,562 last year, increasing more than 10 per cent. The receipts ili-.TuUed only those derived from business in Indiana. A group of eight of the larger gas. light and power companies increased their income from $39,600,000 to $40,500,000, a gain of 2.25 per cent.
