The war lords and high officials will have their hands full, giving China a rest from invasion. It's not always best to get too t«U' away from thte home plate. It pleases the friends of Jimmy Blair to learn of his continued success in the newspaper business, his latest set-up being sole owner-| ship of the Americus. Georgia, j Times-Recorder. Jimmy is a capable newspaper man. loves the I work and the years will make him . one of the influential leaders in. the south. — "Forecasts of better times," says 1 the magazine Today, "would have ■■ been frontpage sensations not so' long ago Now they are becoming j almost monotonous. It is the kind >f monotony which we can endure heerfully. The whole world is sharing in the upturn which the exception of the gold bloc i nations of gold standard l, as the London I Times points out in its annual review." The March number of Outdoor Indiana, monthly magazine publish cd in the interest of game life, promotion of state parks a general conservation program, contains several pages of interesting facts about Hoosier playgrounds. Indiana has several of the finest natural parks in the middlewest, accommodations are above average and those who want to start early in planning motor trips next spring and summer will receive a real thrill from a visit to anyone or a number of them. One of the activities which spring will bring to nearly every city is a repair program of gas and water mains. The next generation may not see a winter as severe as the one we have just passed through, hut there is no assurance that we won't have 20 degree below zero blasts from time to time. What was formerly considered below the freezing line, proved a fail- * ure this winter and utilities will be busy laying new and deeper mains, repairing services to houses and stores and in general making good the ravages of the coldest winter on record. Numerous capable Democrats x have been advanced already for the nomination for governor, and there will be more. It is to be devoutly hoped that whoever the candidate is he may as nearly an possible be another Paul V. McNutt. A man with the far-sighted-ness, the courage, the fairness and intelligence of McNutt will satisfy Indiana Democracy. Governor McNutt's Ideas of stale government have been widely copied, and with success in every instance. I combination of legislative, judicial , I and executive power.—Greensburg Tinies. ■ — | FAST TIME" FOR MIDDLE WEST: | The hearing before Interstate I Commerce Commissioner Aitehisou I on the proposal to stretch the eastI ern standard time belt westward indicates the extent to which the whole thing is in the interest of Chicago. Witnesses appearing before him at the sessions in the Illinois metropolis outline the programs that are approved tentatively by the proponents of the change. , As those touch Indiana, the first calls for making an Eastern standard time area of all the district north of the Big Four Railway starting at Cincinnati, extending to Indianapolis and on west', through Crawfordsvill and to Dan-; ville. 111. A second plan would be to take in all north of the Erie through Huntington and North Judson to the Chicago switching • limits. Commissioner Ailchison called attention to the fact that the plan, as applied to Indiana, would be in violation of a law which fixes Cen-. tral standard time as the official time of the state. The residents of this city certainly are not in favor of a program that would put Indianapolis in one time area and I Franklin. Columbus and all the' rest of Indiana south of the city in ! another. We are not even impress- ■ ed by a program that would annex j the northern part of the state to, the Chicago time zone. The whole I scheme is based on the theory that, the rest of this central area should! do as Chicago wants. Witnesses were present from i Wisconsin to protest against chang | ing the time in their state. They] spoke for the state government, ; for the dairying, labor and other, interests- Our own attorney gen-j eral and the representatives of: Hoosier farmers are on the scene I to enter their protests against in-1 eluding any part of Indiana in the change. There is nothing to prevent Chicago from setting its clocks ahead and keeping them on Eastern time all the year, if that I < ily so desires. But it does not , tolb-.v that lite railways operating! through Indianapolis, Milwaukee j and oilier cities should In com ! polled Io revise their schedules Io suit the "Windy City's" whim Indianapolis Star. ■ a .
