But if he does there will be ainfTe votes to override. The senate “compromise” bill will he brought up for a vote tomorrow. The end of the 17-year fight over bonus payment to American’s World war soldiers may come with far less drama than has attended many of the hot congressional fights over the issue. On May 23 last, after the house had over-ridden the president's veto of the Patman bonus bill, the senate sustained, 54 to 40, nine short of the necessary 63 to enact the bill into law. Bonus advocates have picked up at least 10 and probably more votes by developing a bond or “de- ’’ maud note” method of paying the bonus aud substituting it for the • inflationary type of measure on 1 which the test came last year. ’ Senators who last year went • “down the line” for the ndminis- ! tration since then have seen their 1 leaders go over to the bonus forces ’ and several have come to the conclusion that they mi£ht as well 1 join the procession. A United Press poll of the senate showed at leas’. 6 votes for overriding a veto, with several more doubtful ones expected to be in that column. o Body Os Drowned Lad Is Recovered Fort Wayna, Ind., Jan. 15.—(U.R) —Police and firemen ended a 32hour search last night with recovery of the body of 5-year-old Charles Fox. who drowned Monday morning while coasting on the "St. Mary's river with his brother. (U.R) An pounced detail* of the n’W to be used by the Indiana High School Athletic Association in its 2.5th annual basketball tournament today gave emphasis to the • x piinslveness of the event. A perennial increase in the number of entries caused officials of the association to expand the playing schedule to Include four week ends to prevent exhaustive competition by young athletes. A record membership of 801 schools for the 1935-36 school year indicates entries for the tournament will reach a new high this season. Entries in recent years have mounted steadily, as follows. 1935—781, 1934—773, aud 1933 — 771. The additional week end inserted into the tournament schedule under the new system will be used in playing of semi-final tournaments at Muncie, Indianapolis, Gary, and Vincennes, March 21. Semi-final winners will compete here March 28 for the state championship which now is held by Anderson. Formerly, the 16 regional winners comprised the finals field and
