Gosh sakes, next Thursday is Thanksgiving and what a happy time it should be for all. | From all the trouble European rulers are having, it appears that exKaiser Wilhelm got the most out of the war. Tomorrow is a good time to start the Christmas shopping. Local stores are ready with their wide selection of holiday goods and you’ll find the job easy to do now. For the second consecutive year the Yellow Jackets won the Northeastern Indiana football championship. Coach Andrews, the players and every Decaturite are happy and we say. well done squad. Most of us haven’t figured out if the Italians or the Ethiopians got the best of each other this week, the outcome of the IndianaPurdue and Notre Dame-Southtern California games being more to our liking. Give to the Boy Scout fund. The solicitors who call on you are donating their time and besides contribute towards the cause. All you are asked to do is to donate a few dollars in the name of the l>oys of the community. The extending of the electric lines to the rural sections should eventually mean the sale and installation of electric refrigerators, washers, stoves, pumps and other equipment enjoyed formerly only by those within the corporate limits. The modern farm home today can be made as convenient as the house within a block of the court house. Scouting builds character and better citizenship in youth. It’s worth your investment of a fewdollars to the scout fund to help continue this program. Court records show that very few Boy Scout ■trained youths have ever gone wrong. Scout training is one of Ihe most valuable insurance policies a community can carry and your support of the organization makes possible the realizing of the boaeftts. i The United Brethren church will celebrate next Sunday the eleventh anniversary of the building of the new edifice al the corner of Madison and Ninth streets. It will be a happy occasion for pastor and congregation and among the speakers will be Hou. R. Earl Peters, once a member ol the local church and a former resident of Decatur. No doubt his visit here will be in the nature of a homecoming and his friends will he happy to welcome him There has been much talk about television and how nice it would
be to sit before the fireplace and see the actors and artists flashed on the screen before your eyes. Now someone comes along and finds that the only practical tele- ' vision set in use cost four and onet half million dollars. Tnat destroys the dream. To make television t practical the receiving sets must be produced in the range of price t for radios and it seems there is a wide field tor a genius to work on ; the developement. i • . .. 1 ” Don't violate the liquor law. by act or intent, is the caution issued j by enforcement officers. Complaint has been made in several parts of the state that few dealers are violating the law by keeping their place of business open after the hours fixed in the law. Officers point out that it Is unlawful toj sell, give away or dispense any | alcoholic in any licensed place of business after the closing hours. The intent of the law is to regulate the sale and compliance with it is generally the best policy. Evidently contributions to the Will Rogers Memorial fund arc not coming in very fast from over - the country. Capt. Eddie Ricken | backer, director of the campaign i reminds the public that small con-; tributious are welcome. He writes.; •'From the very outset it has been] the aim and hope of the committee that millions of subscriptions would j be received —nickels, dimes, quarters. pennies' are a tribute to Will Rogers and his kindliness to man-1 ■I Ml - ■ —...— —
