W ' ■ //zA*7 - m- * L To the average reader, especially to the feminine observer, the ItaloEthiopian conflict presents baffling aspects. Claims and counter- . claims made by Haile Selassie and Mussolini complicate the picture. U The situation is further confused by the League of Nations which is forced by terms of its covenant to take action against an aggressor nation, in this case Italy. But league members are loathe to come to a showdown with Mussolini. Consequently, European statesmen have been riding on a diplomatic merry-go-round. Great Britain’s interest in the conflict, which threatens the “life-line of the empire”, has contributed to the chaotic and contradictory nature of the issues at stake.
