Decatur will not provide a “hotel’’ or barracks for tramps this winter. In the first place no funds are ava.i'ahle and secondly nc building is available. Tell the hoboes to move on and they can find a warmer climate by the t-ime snow flies. The parking lot on First streel is used on Saturday nights, but nol much durtMU the week. When you drive up town to shop, why noi park on the lot, walk just a. block and do your shopping. The lot is conveniently located, there are nt time limits on parking and if yoi want to help out on the traffic situation, park your car there. The Wa.'l Street Journal recently devoted a column to Indiana's splendid financial condition. The article was a comment on the state's five million dollar surplus, as of July 31st date. It was very complimentary and deal: with Indiana's new tax policy and the distribution of several million dollars to the school units. Indiana is one of few states in the Union where schools were not closed or terms curtailed because of lack of funds. The "Indiana Plaji” is recognized as one of the soundest and beneficial of any used in the 48 states. A local citizen made the worthy suggestion that newspapers should make a campaign to have the state adopt a uniform traffic light system. The Decatur man told of driving to another town. There the traffic lights were found on the side of the street, in the center of the street and overhead. It was very confusing. The last legislature had a bill introduced along those lines, but somewhere down the line it was blocked? probably due to« the expense -it would heap on cities where the signal lights did not conform to the adopted system.
