Charter Member of The Indiana League of Home Dallies. Former vice-president Dawes saw his prediction about better times come true. Even if William Powell and Jean Harlow marry, you wouldn't exactly call it a marriage. If you grow tired of saying, swat the fly, change it to Musca Domestics, which means the same thing I in Latin. Sally Rajid is out making speeches for a cosmetic company, but most people are concerned 1 about her dancing. New Yorkers are a drinking people. Each day the largest city in the country consumes 1*36,200,000 gallons of water. Mayor Bangs is making good on his assertion of staying in ja.il all summer. Wonder how many Huntingtonites would do that in a tight for him. Two weeks more and the school bells will ring. Vacation will be over and parents and children will prepare for another eventful and busy year. A publicity agent for an auto company claims a family of five can take a 3,793-mile variation trip at a cost of $131.20. You can beat that by just dreaming about it. It would be commendable and of great interest and value if someone wrote an historical sketch of Decatur and Adams couuty, to be used during the Centennial celebration next year. The pamphlets could be given wide distribution and used as souvenirs. Fort Wayne had a cold blooded murder the other night, a wellknown restaurant proprietor being shot in a one-man hold up scene. The killer escaped and authorities are on his trail. He more than likely will be apprehended and it should not take long to meet justict to him. As long as Indiana has the electric chair, use it. Huey Long as a candidate for president will find that the country will not listen to his piffle. The average person knows that the Kingfish cannot make good on his share-the-wealth plan and that the Louisiana senator is not the kind of American to be trusted with the office of president. His race will mean his political death, so let him come on. WPA projects are getting underway throughout the state and about 10,000 men will be on the payroll I in a short time. Communities are carrying on improvement programs as local finances warrant and in another 30 days great impetus will be given to business through the increased purchasing power of individuals. The coming winter can be viewed more optimistically. Bluffton is confronted with the necessity of increasing its city tax levy from 75 cents to 96 cents cn
the SIOO. The budget totals upi proximately $42,000, which Includes a levy to pay back past of the money borrowed from the municipal plant at the beginning of the *’ year. For comparison, Decatur’s t levy is only 40 cents on the SIOO and city officials hope to keep It t near that figure for next year. t The Detroit Jury found William Ferris and his three girl ‘‘cocktail , liar racketeers” guilty of first dell gree murder in connection with > the death of lawyer Dickinson. J All four face life imprisonment 5 and regardless of their proposed ’ appeal to a higher court, they are ’ In for it. Their lives are ruined. disgraced and all a sorry mess, the result of lack of morals and the false theory that a living could be obtained without working. Governor Davey recites that a : special congressional election wi’l cost Ohio at least $500,000. The governor does not favor calling an election to fill the vacancy caused ’ by the death of Representative Truax. Since congress is about ready to adjourn and in view of the fact that the regular election is only a few months away, it does seem foolish to spend a half million dol’ars now. The state would not suffer by leaving the congressional seat vacant for a few weeks. o_ — if ST AR SIGN ALS* by OCTAVINE For persons who believe that human destiny is guided by the Planets tlie daily horoscope is outlined by a noted astrologer.
