With eight more games in the east before they meet the two contenders at the Pole ground later in the month, the Giants are out tb build up a lead which will keep them on top even if they split the last eastern invasion of the two western pennant chasers. The Giants have fwo more games with the Brooklyn Dodgers at the Polo grounds and six with the Phillies at Philadelphia. On August TH, the S'. Louis Cardinals invade. New York and then, after enter-ts-ning the Cincinnati Reds, the Giants tackle rhe Cubs in a sixgame series beginning August 22. The Cubs and Cardinals clash in Chicago beginning Friday. This series, the Giants figure, shou’d aid their own cause. Regardless Os which team wins, one will be further .behind the tkajits when rhe western invasion begins —if the Giants maintain their present pace. The Cubs, noted for heir poor road performances, are faltering after winteing eleven straight games. Th y came out on the abort end of th ir series which ended at Cincinnati yesterday and only broke even in a preceding four game series at Pittsburgh—■ the series that saw their eleven game streak snapped. LOUIS FIGHTS KING LEVINSKY Sensational Detroit Negro. To Fight King Wednesday Night Chicago, Aug. 6.— (U.R) - -Joseph I Deadpan Louis of Detroit faces the ' greatest rest of his short but eventi ful lite tomorrow when he meets ‘up with Kingfish Levinsky, Chicago's heavyweight pride, in a 10round prize fight at Comlskey park. The Michigan negro, color of coffee, half-and-half, wi.'l, for the first itime, meet with a sturdy gent who can dish as well as take. And if Louis is lucky he will win the tight after absorbing at least one of those gosh-awful r-'glits the 'Kingfish finds down around his j ankles. For if Joe merely makes Levin|sky do a now-l-lay-me along he j pattern followed when Primo CarInera was driven out of the big 'time, the skeptics will sti'l ask if Louis can take It.

The chances for delivery of one of those fish pier rights are disit inc'ly bright. The Kingfish, for [ the first time in his life, has trainled with at lea«t a semblance of seriousness. The Chicago fighit patrol who have followed Levinsky i through his weeks of practice Intsist he’s ready for the fight of his life. I Betting along the loop held firmly at 2*4 i o 1. favoring Louis, and there seemed I-t’le .likelihood of I I any drastic shift by tomorrow | night. Louis looks like a very 'good thing at such a price. Bur. 'there is just enough chance that |an uncharted Levinsky smash might land to keep the negro’s whooper-uppers from going any higher. An informal roll of 'he profess-, ional fight followers of Chicago and' New Y'ork made it seem certain I that Louis would win. just as It ] was sure that Max Baer would' trounce James J. Braddock, who wen: on to lift Maxie’s world title. 1 The seat sale has gone well past I the $113,000 mark and the original estimates of $200,000 don’t seem fantastic. The cheapest seaits—s2.40 —go on sale today and probably will be gobbTeu up by sundown. This would add some $30,000 to the present take, leaving the promoters a full day and i he fight night itself in which to cop the reimaining 50-odd thousand. . o ■ STANDINGS NATIONAL LEAGUE W. L.
