I social security program. The original intent of the. intangible* tax law, it was explainI cd, watt to exclude securities owncd by the institutions included in 1 jllie attorney general's opinion. Under strict application of the law, however, pension funds and intangibles investments of religious, fraternal and educational institutions would be liable for collection of tho 1933 and 1934 taxes with penalties. Philip Zoerchor, chairman of the state tax hoard, said today that he is considering collecting only the tax for 1935. Local officials already have been instructed to proceed with the total collections but the order is expected to be modified, he said. “Despite the opinion, 1 don't see how the state teachers retirement fund, for instance, could be classified as coming under the ruling,” Zoercher said. “In view of the state aid factor and the state's Interest in the fund, collection of an Intangibles tax on the teachers fund would be just the same as placing a tax on the state itself.” Robert Hougham, executive see rctary of the retirement fund, WWWIftAfWWtfWWVUWWW

Lea, weed extension specialist of Purdue University, was in the county Wednesday and in company with County Agent Archbold visited a number of the sprayed and 'cultivated Canada thistle amd Bind weed plots in the county. It was found that where the Canada thistle and European bind weed laid been properly sprayed, uniformly good results were obtained; that is, about a 95% kill, which means that the sprayed plots must be followed through for the second year, in order to be 100% effective. Mr. Lee was surprised to find the weed had gained a foothold in this county. One fairin' of about 12* acres in particular, was shown Mm which was entirely overrun with bind weed and two other farms that had from three to fiveaicre patches on them.
