The program would be in addition to the U. 8. forestry plans, under which at least three units of approximately 100,000 acres each will be purchased in southern Indiana, the report said. Bills are pending in both houses providing for purchase of lands for IT. S. forests by the federal government. "Consideration also must be given to a program of public works within counties and cities,” the report said. "While the commission should take the Initiative in starting such programs, it is essentially the duty of local officials to propose them.” Part of the report was devoted to an outline of public works which are needed in Bloomington and Monroe county. A|> expenditure of $394,000 in the county and $1,413,800 in Bloomington, was recommended. Work would include road projects, a county jail, county schools, a gymnasium, city airjiort, street work, hospital, jiark lands and a junior higli school. Tlie commission recommended establishment of a permanent state planning board. The body would be composed of 11 members. Its purpose would be to adopt an “official master plan for the physical and economic development of the state."
