ILLINOIS FIVE UPSETS PURDUE lowa And Indiana Share Lead In Big Ten Conference Race Chicago. Jan. K —(U.R)—lowa and Indiana shared the Big Ten basketball lead today, each with a 1.000 per cent. Although the season did not open until Saturday every other team in the conference has been beaten except .Minnesota which hasn't played. lowa has won two games, adding a 39 29 victory over Chicago last night to its opening triumph over Ohio State. 32-21. Indiana. which won its opening game Saturday from Illinois, 32-28, didn't play last night. Purdue, defending champion ami favorite to repeat, was unexpectedly beaten last night by Illinois in a closing rush, 37 36. Two Held goals and a free throw enabled Illinois to win. Purdue had led at ' half time, 20-17. Wisconsin, which dropped it; first game to Purdue. 19-18, defeated Northwestern, 16-9, in a brillian’ defensive game, in which only sev en field goals were made on both sides The score was tied at the half, 6-6.
