Charter Member of The Indiana League of Home Dailies. Ask for Crystal White beet sugar, made from beets grown by Adams county farmers and processed by Indiana labor. The solid business men of the nation are not alarmed about inflation and we see no reason why the man of ordinary means should be. Property taxes in Indiana dropped from $140,737,389.66 in 1931 to $88,264,930.63 in 1333, which all ■must admft is real relief for the farm and home owner. “They used to tell us that the election of Democrats meant a panic, but* wasn't that a dandy little panit* Mr. Hoover laid fn our laps a few years ago?" is the way Sherman Minton puts it up to the voters. We should remember when paying taxes that they would have been much larger without the excise and tncome taxes. Much of the burden has been lifted from the shoulders of the owners of real estate an* personal property and the distribution is much fairer. This is Discovery Day and the important date in history, 442 years ago,-is being duly observed. All over the country the great Columbus is being honored and the story of hjs adventures which led to the establishment of the greatest nation in the world are being told and retold. We are on the way to recovery and Congressman Farley's plea for support of the administration deserves your ear. We can't go 'baek to the old reactionary control without serious danger to every farmer, laborer, business man. If Mr. Roosevelt ts given two years more, the general conditions will be far tetter than most of us expected to come within a decade. Congressman Farley makes an excellent report of his first term in congress. He is a safe and careful representative, anxious to attend to those matters of greatest interest to .every community In the Fourth district and deserving of your support. He is confident of the future, is loyal to his people, capable and always on the job. Make no mistake about keeping him on the job. The pay roll at the sugar factory has passed the 350 mark, besides the large force of men engaged in building live soy bean plant on the same grounds, a total of between four and five hundred employes. We owe this institution much and we should be loyal and helpful every minute. If they succeed, and they will, the future of this community is well assured. This is not a boom, but a healthy growth that will continue to increase in bene, fits, direct and indirect. An eleven-year-old boy now becomes King Peter of Jugoslavia, a responsiblity that may bear heav-
ily on one of his age. Os course he will be guided and guarded and led by older heads but just the same his life will be such as pre- , vent him enjoying the career of the average boy during the years beween now and manhood. Really we pity him and he probably would much prefer to be Just a boy who can shoot marbles, play ball or go Ashing. If he doesn't now, he will before long. For some reason or another, the G. O. I*, orators have let up on their attack that the Democratic administraion is ruining the constitution. Every one knows that isn't true and that the “stjuawk" comes from those who have been getting larger privileges than those now being given tUe "forgotten man.” Mr. Hogg is about the only one left in the field who continues to dramatically show how the constitution is being torn to shreds. Even the mouthy senior Senator Robinson has passed it up. The Democratic meeting at Berne last evening was a delightful one, with a program of excellent speaking and good music, concluded with a luncheon of sandwiches, ice cream an J coffee. The auditorium was well filled with men and women, interested in the political issues of the day and the talks by Mr. Farley, Mr. Weicking, Mr. Hoffman and the others were helpful to those who desire to understand the plans and the hopes of the administration. The speakers urged the election of those candidates who will support earnestly the efforts of the President whom every one admits is making a mar- - velous effort with much progress < towards a better day for the people of America. < o

AMOUNT ASKED BY KIDNAPERS REPORTED PAID (CONTINUED FHOMonly In thin negligee and with a coat thrown over her shoulders. it appeared that young Berry Stoll's statement today was designed as a direct message from him to the man who Is holding his wife. Up to the present Stoll has been extremely reticent to talk to newspapers or to have any statement from the family appear in print. Today's statement, however, was highly formal and was issued by Stoll with the express request that it be given wide publicity, indicating he was anxious that the abductor see it. At the same time the family I took further steps to insure tho security of the kidnaper and with it the security of Mrs. Stoll who was in fragile health at the time of the abduction. They asked that every airplane in the state of Kentucky with the single exception of airlipc transport planes be grounded indefinitely. This was to preclude the possibility that the kidnaper would think he was being sought from the air. It appeared likely that the ransom money probably was paid to the kidnaper himself since all investigators have expressed the view that the abduction was the work of a “lone wolf." "In my opinion." said Dunlap Wakefield, director of public safe- i ly, "it is a ona man job." OFFICERS HOT ON TRAIL OF NOTED GUNMAN | ;CONTINUED FROM FADE ONE) guns ansi shotguns.
