ELLSWORTH TO ATTEMPT FLIGHT IN ANTARCTICA Explorer Declares Time Ideal For Pioneer Surveys New York, — (UdG'-Back to Antarctica again that's where Lincoln lEllaworth, who has more than a mere nodding acquaintance with the Itaal penguins, expect* to be neat Nuverwbqr. "The fascination of the Antarctic still lures me, even after the dieappointment that brought about the abandonment of my January flight.” he explain* in Natural History, wherin he has outlined hie plans for tire latest expedition. Larger Than Europe iDr. Ellsworth claims that "no other explored land mass even remotely comparable in size awaits the inquisitiveness of man, tor Antarctica ie larger than all of Europe and as yet only a minor fraction of its immensity has been seen and recorded by man." Antarctica is one of the highest of the continents apparently being approximately seven limes the average height of 'Europe. Although its toe cap is about 7.000 Jeet deep its condition in the past was vastly different from that today. Large seams of coal have been discovered within several hundred miles of the South Pole; they measure 40 feet thick and run for hundreds of miles, .in addition, fossil plant stems 18 inches; in diameter have been found, plus fragmentary impreseiona of langer treee—all evidence of a possible lush past. Discovery Flight Now, declare* iDr. .Ellsworth, is the time tor pioneer surveys of the region. His flight over this little known continent really will be a voyage of discovery, and will subtract a belt of the unknown from that which is now marked "conjectured land” on the chart*. Hi* supplies will ibe carried to the base of operations at Deception Island, which is south of Cape Horn. (Material for exteneive research and the plane with which the flight is to be executed again will be .carried on the “Wyatt Earp” whi 'h, incidentally, is named after one of the mo£t accurate sharpshooters in the Old West.
