If the pool can be enlarged for a few hundred dollars, the pleasure of the children and the appreciation of the mothers gained thereby would no doubt offset the financial outlay. People who love to see the soil properly treated should ride through Lancaster and York Counties in Pennsylvania, farmed in the main by “Pennsylvania Dutch.” They will see nothing but fair fields, excellent buildings, beautiful cattle, and every visible sign of thrift. Nothing is wasted: nothing lost. The farmers do most of their own work, and long ago they learned the noble art of making and saving. Farm after farm nestle together, all in a high state of cultivation. Crops are diversified, so that if one iwe does not thrive there is always plenty for the occupants. The farms decorate the graceful hillsides in unending variety. The people live and thrive upon them They do not need to be nursed by the Government, or assisted over tough places. They long since learned to be prudent and to profit by the latest devices in farm machinery and marketing. Os late years they have turned more and more to supplying the local market, where moderate prices and a steady demand persist. FRENCH HERO DIES TODAY Marshal Hubert Lyautey, Morocco Conqueror, Dies Today Nancy, France, July 27.— <U.R) — Marshal Hubert Lyautey, 79-year-old French war hero, died today at bis chateau. Members of the aged soldier’s family were at the bedside when he succumbed to pulmonary eongoiHtion complicated by a liver complaint. At bis own request, Lyautey will be buried in Morocco, the land he conquered for the French. Scorning the invalides of Napoleon, where France buries her heroes, the marshal erected his own tomb some years back along the shores of the Atlantic, near the moslept capitol of Rabat. A hero of the World War, Marshal Hubert Lyautey was revered throughout France as one of the ablest colonial conquerors of all time. It was generally agreed that he had given his country Morocco, 2213,000 square miles of colony rich in minerals and potential fighting forces. Minister of war during the international conflict, Lyautey preferred peaceful means of gaining his ends. He never destroyed where he could gain a victory by i other means —a philosophy he i demonstrated throughout his long career as a public servant. His colonial career began in 1894 in Indo-Uhina where he applied the method of colonizing the native instead of driving him from his home. Three years later he applied his pacific methods to subdue the southern half of the Island of Madagascar. In 1912 Lyautey was elected to the French academy and made a
