Charter Member of The Indiana League ot Home Dailies. It doesn't make much difference where Dillinger has been as long as they don't catch him. That Portland fire bug evidently is of the opinion that things are not hot enough in his town. Queen Mary has selected a new style hat. Is that a step towards rugged individualism or going modern? Like its owner, the Chicago Tribune represents entrenched wealth and special privileges for those who possess it. Out in San Francisco they couldn't work because of the strike and out here they say it’s too hot to work. Let's leave it at that. With Edmondton, Alberta, Canada, enjoying temperatures in the forties, it's a wonder more people don't go there to live. Second street is also the route of a slate road and traffic lanes are expected to be open. Don't double park and cause congestion and possible injury to yourself and others. Rufus Dawes has had his picture taken so many times as president of the Century of Progress that hf probably feels he is part of the slow. The weather may be so dem hot Sunday that motorists will prefer staying home, thus reducing the usual number ot week-end accidents and fatalities. .The cost of the strike to the people ot’ San Francisco is estimated at nearly one hundred million dollars and it's a safe bet that, the guy who started it didn't lose a cent. The Fort Wayne father who tied hts two little children to a post in the broiling sun can be cataloged as the state’s meanest man. His only excuse was that he wanted to correct the tiny tots. Will someone swat him!

The General Electric plant Is increasing production on the new type motor and additional employment Is being given to men and women. The factory Is a busy place these days and Indications are that the pickup will continue for sometime. Experienced and successful farmer,s say it's just as important to build up the soil as it Is to shovel in another load ot coal to keep the furnace going, if you want to produce good crops. The extra production per acre is generally the profit. ... _ ... — _ , If there is one enterprise on earth that the quitter should leave alone, it Is advertising. Advertising does not jerk—it pulls. It begins gently at* first, but the pull is steady. It increases day by day, year by year, until it exerts an irresistible power!—John Wanamaker. The Harry Payne Whitney estate will pay about 10 million in state inheritance taxes and the wife and children of the famous New Yorker will still receive 62 millions, which shows that all fortunes have not been wiped out. At one time the estate was valued at more than a hundred million. It's a wonder more families don't move into their basements in torrid weather. The temperature downstairs is generally several degrees cooler and with a small expenditure of money rooms can be made as comfortable as those upstairs. Keep the windows closed and your basement will be the coolest place under roof. Word has been sent out from Washington that plans are underway to consolidate the hundreds of codes into less than 300 different classifications, making it more ; simple for industry and individual to conform with the NRA regulations. It sounds like common sense. At least there might be a chance to administer that many different lines and the whole thing will not seem so confusing to the public. Your attention Is called to the I front page picture showing four styles of houses to be built and a general view of the Decatur Homestead site, located on the Cade farm at the south edge of the city. Government officials say the houses will be modern, containing front five to six rooms, bath, basement and furnace. It will be a village all its own and its operation and success will be watched with interest. We like, the two lane traffic roads which Detroit and other large cities have built.
