Up to June 12. 11,000 pages were printed for the Congressional Record. which matter might be taken by the over-production committee. Which one do you think thought himself the big shot when Mussolini and Hitler got together for a conference? If America collects those European debts treasury officials should sense the happiness of the ordinary fellow when he receives a distribution check from a closed bank. A motion picture directors wife was robbed of $56.000 wor.h of jewelry, which of course is a crime, but anyone who can afford that much stuff for adornment need not expect much sympathy. Hogs are going up, reaching $4.30 on the local market yesterday. Within the past two days the increase has been 60 cents per hundredweight. The next thing might be a shortage. The objections to Sherman Minton's nomination seems to come from former Senator Watson and the republican press. Well no one thought they were nominating anyone to please them. The vacation season is also time to be careful about your drinking water. Visiting strange places may mean hazards as regards good drinking water and many times typhoid fever comes from impure water. It appears tliat the strike of steel workers will be called. It's a shame that tie-ups and disputes must come at this time, injuring business and depriving deserving men and women of jobs. AH hope to avert the impending strike has not yet been abandoned and industry may be kept going with both sides getting together. During the first five months of this year. 12,102 Indiana farmers fooled the big bad wolfe of mortgage foreclosure by means of obtaining new loans through the Federal farm mortgage organiza tion. The new deal means something to the person who feared the thoughts of losing his home and farm. The plan to erect a shelter house or cabin for the girl and boy scouts in Hanna-Nuttman park, west of Decatur is a splendid step. A nature place in itself, the paik is just the right site tor a scout camp and recreation center. If funds are contributed, those in charge of the scout organizations here will, with the aid of the city, direct and supervise the building of the camp. Let o do it. It was brought out in a recent

congressional investigation that a great many of the rural school teachers in one of the richest counties in the state were receiving as low as $270 a year. Not that the teachers were not worth more money, but tae districts were unable to provide the funds. A grant from the federal government is being sought as many of the district schools cannot operate at all. School teachers are entitled to living wages and it's a sorry slate of affairs when counties or districts have to deprive children of elementary training, because of lack of money. The Literary Digest says Roosevelt is stronger with the people today than he was in 1932. Commenting on this week's straw vote returns on the new deal, the magazine says: "The President receives 534,501 votes in support of his administration as against 340,569 in opposition. This gives him a majority of 61.09 per cent, of the total vote to date, which shows an increase in his popularity of 3.77 per cent, over his 1932 election ratio and also an increase in his majority over the previous week's returns of the poll. Vermont is the only State voting against the Roosevelt policies so far, but the poll vote shows an increased senti-1 meat now for the President over | the 1932 election ratios he received 1 there. Twenty-nine States give the ! President a higher percentage of i votes in this poll than they did in ' the 1932 official election while i nineteen States, most of which are I in the agricultural regions, give | him a smaller ratio than they did eighteen months ago." o * Household Scrapbook —BY—ROBERTA LEE ♦ ——♦ Grease Spots Add a small amount of gasoline to the water when scrubbing dirty floors. It will take away the grease spots. Stockings ; If the stockings persist in wear- | ing out at the toes, try buying them a half-size larger, and see if this does not remedy the difficulty. Fish While scaling fish, hold it under running water. The scales will not scatter and the job will be less objectionable. Start at the tail of the fish and scrape towards the head.
