The telegram stated that cornhog quotas would be discussed and given out at this meeting. One of the things that has held up the progarms is that in the state payment has been asked on one million head of hogs more than records show were slaughtered, and the state board of review maintains there is an overstatement in every county. .After the Auburn meeting it will be necessary for the allotment committee to dig into the evidence in every contract and take out the hogs that are ineligible for benefit payments. After these adjustments are made the contracts will be typed and then be presented to the producers so rtheir signature- ,— o Divorcees Can Cool Heels Oklahoma City, Okla. —(UP)— One of the first official acts of Claude Weaver, Oklahoma statesman, when he was appointed district judge here to fill a vacancy, was to ban quick divorces. By HARRISON CARROLL Copyright. ItlS. by KiM FeatucM Sindh-ato. Inc HOLLYWOOD, Calif., - I like Stuart Erwin’s crack about “Viva Villa”. The shorter-than-

average comedian returned from Mexico where he had to compete with Leo Carrillo and Wallie Beery, all dolled up in high sombreros. ‘‘Between the two of them,” flipped Stu, “I played the whole picture in the shade.” Sample of the nervous temper of Hollywood
about kidnap; pers is the creation of a Metro-Goia-wyn-Mayer pistol range where stars will be taught to handle revolvers and to shoot straight. The idea is credited to “Whitey Hendry, chief of the studio police force, who has supervised the construction of the range in the backcountry near the Culver City film plant. Expert instruction will be given the cinema marksmen by Tommy Carr, American Olmypic pistol champion and former Santa Monica cop, whose pre-repea) exploits, usually in disguise won him the half-facetious tab of “the man of a thousand faces.” Among the stars who'll learn to shoot, or to improve their aim. will be Jean Harlow, Robert Montgomery and Clark Gable. Studio officials also plan to enlist. Between scenes for “The Green Hat”, Connie Bennett tells me that the Marquis de la Falaise will spend two or three months more on his Oriental film jaunt. The party is now at Djiring in Annam and goes from there to photograph the rums of Angkor. Something that Hollywood didn’t know is that the Marquis is trapping jungle beasts to bring back to this country The sophisticated Bennett says she would five to go on such an expedition but for the quadruple vaccination against Oriental diseases and for the insects. The idea of a tigerhunt on elephant back thrills her.

Uh huh. it does me, too—but not until they grow two-story elephants. The Clive Brook reserve (he's that way off-screen, too) comes near to cracking- at the prospect of his first trip home in 10 years. The English star and his family leave here this month on a six-month’s trip to Eurpe. They’ll go to England, then to Switzerland, where the two youngsters, 10 year-old Faith and 6 year-old Clive jr„ will be put in school. Clive and Mrs. Brook are shipping their new car I over and will spend the rest of the time on a motor tour of the con- \ tinent. And just in case you think | the rest isn’t deserved, Clive has > made 54 pictures in the last 10 [ years. Did you hear Ben Bernie’s withering crack on the air about America’s Public Enemy No. 1? That Dillinger gave the Chicago police 24 hours to get out of town. Among the movie workers I envy is the gent who handles the seagulls for the “Treasure Island”
company at Catalina. When the director of this picture has to have a sea-gull, he has to have him. So they give a man board and room and $6 a day just to sit on the beach and keep throwingcrumbs of bread. Joan Crawford’s recent declaration that she will not marry Franchot
