Charter Member of The Indiana League of Home Dailies. The weatherman seems to have a supply of snow flakes left over and still shakes them out occasionally. The candidates were hustling around today, making hay and smil-| ing at the voters. So far it has been a clean and interesting campaign. Keep it that way. A wise old philosopher once remarked that “young folks look forward while old folks look back" and an exchange suggests that in this day of high powered and high speed automobiles it might be wise for both young and old to jump sideways. Jack Dempsey has bought a weekly newspaper in Texas and it he isn't careful what he prints he may need all his fistic ability to persuade some irate subscriber. He may not do his own writing but ha will probably do his own bouncing. .May Ist is Clean-Up day in Decatur. Get ready for it. The home owner should have his yard cleaned. the bans and rubbish placed in boxes so this can be hauled away •ted otherwise should assist the cily men to complete the job as speedily and as complete as possible. Don't' park double. The dowu town streets are narrow and with cars parked on each tide and then doubled up, traffic is not only dangerous but almost impossible. Officers are doing their best to cored ilia practise and should have your jjypperation. .Clarence Manion, who addressed the Rotary members here, handled a difficult subject, "The Constitution and Socialism,” aud did it as only a master could. .Mr. .Maninn is without doubt one of the outstanding orators of America and his speeches are always well worth hearing. He impressed all who listened to him here and efforts to secure him for a public talk later in the year will be made. Mrs.Taye Smith-Knapp has been re-elected as president of the Adams County Womans Democratic Club for another year, a compliment well deserved. Mrs. Knapp has worked diligently at the work of organizing the club, placing it in a position to aid the party and thus render real service to the county. The club is'growing and will prove helpful in the coming campaign and the meetings are interesting and eduealioua.l events. It requires much nerve for the citizens of Morgan county to petition the governor to grant a conditional pardon to John Dillinger. We can hardly imagine a worse thing for society. The man has been a criminal of the killer kind, associating with the most desperate characters in America. Several of his companions have been sentenced to death. To pardon the leader of this gang of bank robbers and desperadoes, would certainly
•aa**reMBa*teWteaBMMN*gMMMMMMHMMRaBBM not prove a wholesome remedy but tend to increase crime. * Committeemen elected in the coming primary should have in mind that it is their duty to appoint vice-committeemen in the preciuct and report same to the county chairman by noon on Thursday following the election. If they do not do so, the chairman must then name these officials. The committeemen and vice-committeo-men meet on the Saturday following the election and complete their organization by electing county chairman, vice-chairman, secretary' and treasurer. The Rotary club has selected Bryce Thomas, well known and popular teacher, as president for the ensuing year. Those who know Bryce well and know his ability are sure that the year will be a pleasant and profitable one. The new president has long been active in community affairs, his work with the Boy Scouts having made him scores of friends among the lads and the dads. He will succeed Dr. Fred Patterson who lias handled the job of president in a splendid manner the past year. Baseball fans who scanned the i American Association standing in The Star Thursday morning, following the second day of the pennant race, saw something rare in percentage combinations. The won and lost colamns for every team in the organization were marked bysolid rows of 1. It was fifty-fifty everywhere. Every club which won on the opening day lost in the second encounter, and vice versa. No statistics are at hand to show when this peculiar combination last occurred, but it is quite rare. Ordinarily the odds are overwhelming in favor of some deviation from such uniformity. Both major leagues showed combinations after the first two contests which were more nearly normal. Two teams in each league won both of their games, which naturally left two in last place with an equal number of losses. The remaining four teams in each league were credited with a percentage of .501).—Indianapolis Star. 0 Ifw-Ja Uncle . CHARLEY eRANT , Harry Spurte says: Th - windy fellers sure make us want. U storm.
