PURDUE LOSES FINAL CONTEST IN CONFERENCE Illinois Surprises Bijf Ten Chainpions With 27-2li Defeat Chicago, Mur. 6 <U.R) The curium was rung down on the Big Ten bus ketnall season today with Purdue, the champions, spiarting under a 27 to 26 defeat by the I’niveraity [ of Illinois. The surprise defeat at the hands of the lllini at Champaign was the second setback lor Purdue during the season. lowa administered the, other defeat early in the season. Wisconsin moved into a tie with ( Northwestern for second place by j winning over Minnesota, 24 to 23., at Madison. The Badgers took an ' early lead and at the half were in full command on the long end of a 21 to 5 score. Michigan pulled a game with Indiana at Ann Atoiior out of the fire in the final minutes of play, win ning 25 to 32. The Wolverines trailed most of the game, hut spurt- I ed to fie at 32-all with but two min utes left to play. Purdue won the western conference title. Butler took the Missouri Valley championship and Notre Dame has hung up a record of 20 victories with only two defeats in a si-hedule which included the strongest teams in the country. The mythical Indiana college conference championship went to Indiana Central which won 16 games and lost one.
