Yellow Jackets Drop Close Game To Rocheste
JACKETS LOSE TO ROCHESTER SCORE. 20-18 Visitors Score Winning Basket In Closing Seconds Os Play Th* Decatnr Yellow Jacket*, at' ' ter leadi-g most of the hall game, lout a tough 20-18 decision to the Rochester high school team on the local floor Saturday night. With the scored tied al 18-18 and only seconds left to play, a Rochester man worked under the basket for a shot which gave the visitors 1 their two-point victory. After each team had scored two! field goals to end the first quarter I in a 1-4 tie, Decatur quickly shot into a 10-5 margin. At the end of the first half, the Yellow Jackets held a three-point margin at 11-8. Two field goals by the visitors . gave them a 12-11 lead soon after the third quarter opened, but Blythe scored on a rebound shot to put Decatur iii the lead again. (1. Strickler widened the gap with a ] free throw but Rochester tied the 1 count at 14-14. Cowan’s fielder from the side of the floor gave Decatur a 16-14 margin at the quarter. G. As ae added attraction, the Monmouth Rockets will meet an independent team from Leipsic, Ohio, in a preliminary game at 7:30. —oOo — Last week was a disastrous one for Decatur high school teams. The Yellow Jackets and Commodores each dropped two games. —oOo — The Jackets lost their fourth conference game Friday night, losing a 34-21 decision to the Columbia City Eagles at Columbia City. Saturday night, the Yellow Jackets were nosed out on the local floor by Rochester. 20 to 18. after leading practically the entire game. —oOo— The Commodores lost to Ossian and Jefferson last week, dropping both games on the local floor. The pommies were forced to play the Jefferson game without the services of two regulars, Braden and Murphy, co-captaitis of the Commodore squad. The Kirkland Kangaroos downed the Berne Bears in a real battle at the Kirkland gym Saturday night, 18 to 16, in an overtime session. Berne staged a great comeback to tie the score before the final gun sounded but the Bears were
