Well, any way, the gang that tried to rob the Teeple-l’eterson clothing store here, didn't profit. One of them is in jail and the [ ethers got so excited they dumped j the goods along the road. This is cue jaunt they can charge up on the loss side of their ledger. This is cheese week and its important. There is a 30,000,000-pound siyplus, effecting the market of all dairy products producers. Its to the interest of every farmer. An extra pound a week will soon dispose of th© over supply now on hands. To Martin Worthman, Guy Brown and all the others who planned and carried out the parade Saturday, much credit is due. Every body helped to make Sugar Week a whopper of a success and the returns will be many fold. It was a well performed job and a worth wlule one. And the best week for any com iniinity would be an advertising week, but it ought to be every week in the year. The merchant whoffails to make an ample appropriation for this necessary expenditure for 1934 is alseep. It will come back to you many fold, if wisely used. Its time to start the fund lor taking care of the poor children I at Christmas time and although it ! may seem a little early, the occasI ion will be here in another two j ' weeks. The fund up to Saturday I ’ night was only $27.45 and that's a . I long ajjiys from the several hundred ' dollars needed. Emorie Lawrence, widely known i newspaper writer, from the Chi- * cago Herald-Examiner, and whose I I real name is Miss Ruth Love, told ’ ; us this was a good town and said she knew it a few moments after she landed here. She declares you ; tell by the feel of the air when you ■ are in a city where optimism has : driven pessimism and the depress- I lion out. We stood near Dale McMillen as the big parade went past Saturday and heard him in no uncertain words declare his pleasure at the ] finale of a wonderful week and his appreciation of the excellent support given. The Central Sugar l Company has and will continue to do their part and we guarantee the officials that this community will keep right on boosting and helping. ' — New public work projects will I provide work for a number of men I in addition to those working and will provide some needed improve-' ments. One of the important ones will bo rebuilding of the city's electric light lines in the west part of the city. There will also be important improvements at the court house, jail, county infirmary and the Memorial hospital. The petition for the cleaning and improving of the St. Mary's river 1 has gone forward and we should secure the approval of this job. It would provide work for many men , and beautify the old stream in a way that would keep it looking , good for years to come. Those who object because of fear of adding annual expenses we are suro will have nothing to worry over for much of the work done now will not have to be attended to again tor many years. Mayor Krick smiled as be cut into the creamy, delicious giant loaf of Kraft Cheese this afteruoou, formally opening the observation here of National Cheese week.
George is a real booster for any thing that helps the farmer and believes sincerely that the way to bring back prosperity every where 1 is to get the agricultural districts t going at a profit. Dairy products will help do that if the market can be maintained and that's the big idea of this weeks program. o ♦ * — •• — ——♦ Answers To Test Questions Below a.e the Answers to the Text Question! HUGE TELESCOPE 90 TEARS OLD Cincinnati, O.— (U.PJ — One cold' night In February, 1848, a small group of persons here took turns looking at the heavens through the first major telescope in the United States and the second largest in the world. Almost a century later, although it is a pigmy among the large telescopes of today, the old glass still is in use. Through it, according to estimates, more than 100,000 persons have looked at the starry universe. The telescope, believed to be the oldest now in use in this country, has outlasted four sets of clockwork used to turn it against the earth's motion so that an astronomical object will not pass from its field of vision. The Cincinnati Observatory, where the telescope is housed, Just observed its 90th anniversary. The cornerstone of ( the original observatory was laid Nov. 9, 1843, by John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States. The U-ineb telescope was purchased in Munich, Germany, for $9,500. At that time the only larger telescope was located at Poulkova. Russia. In 1873 the observatory was taken over by the University of Cincinnati. o TWENTY YEARS - " AGO TODAY From the Dally Democrat File Mrs. J. L. Kocher visits in Fort Wayne. Dr. C. V. She Doesn’t Know How You Do It! • « j YOU feel a little embarrassed and sorry for her. She looks so admiring and helpless, so envious, and so—so—- - ineffective! Her clothes are always so bad, poor little thing’. And she pays too much for them. Her home is furnished with all the wrong things. She seems to have a genius for wasting money. When she goes out to buy anything, soap or silverware, or lingerie or lamps, she’s sure to turn up with something nobody ever heard of before 1 and doesn’t want to hear of again. She is that eager, but not very bright, little woman who, “my dear, doesn’t ever read advertisements.” Who doesn’t know' what to buy, or where to find it, or what to pay for it. Who doesn’t know values and can’t compare them. Who doesn’t know that when a new style, or a new convenience, or a new anything arrives, one sees it first in the advertisements. One really gits a little vexed with her—- > I But let’s not waste too much time on her. It’s about time for you. dear lady, to have your daily look through the advertisements.. To stand the test of advertising merchandise must be good. 4i- I N - * • J
