Self control is after all much more important than control by lew, for once that is put over, we will have genuine temperance and better citizenship. Take a look at the many attractive windows down town and in every part of the city and you will realize that Decatur is back of the j sugar week campaign to the limit. The 1931 campaign will be a real one as is evidenced by the fact that numerous candidates are already stirring although usually this does not occur until well after the first of the year. The best answer to those who knock the program of President Roosevelt is that four million men have returned to work at a living wage, that business is much better and the people happier than in several years. Isn't that what we all want? It was an enthusiastic bunch of folks that gathered at the Catholic high school auditorium last evening, 100% for the farm program, designed to aid the farmers of Adams county through corn and hogs, beets and dairy products. Surely that is a sound and sensible thing to be for. And every body is. It's sfigar week in Adams county and every one knows it by now. AU over the county, housewives are signing the cards pledging the use of- Sparkling Crystal White sugar. Every hundred pounds used represents a day's work for some one' Besides the market for the farmers who raise the been. W. H. Settle is an earnest worker in the farm movement and has devoted many years to assisting th< in. He is in close contact with the agriculture department of the federal government and his sta>em i» s last evening should bring hope to the breast of every one engaged in the great business of farming. Dale McMillen has many friends here us he ought to have. He hasn't blustered or bragged but in a business like manner has proceeded to gain the confidence of every one by doing all he promised last spiTng and then some more. He is a real fellow and we don't need to say again that we appreciate his

interest In this community. After all the fuss and prediction, the only way you can buy hard 1 liquors in Indiana, is by the pack- * age and at drug stores, so that those who claimed that there would be a saloon on every corner, just didn't know his stuff and perhaps didn't care. His object was probably to put the McNutt administration on the spot. A special election to choose a congressman in the third district of West Virginia was held a few days ago. The campaign was a hot one. with strong men opposing each other and the Issue whether or not the administration should be supported. The Democrat, Col. Edmiston, won by 5,700, a gain over the results last year. Dr. Brock, whoghas been coming to Adams county for many years, is one of the outstanding men in the United States, iu the beet sugar business As the secretary ot the Farmer's and Manufacturers Beet Sugar Association, he has lectured all over the country, has fought their battles in Washington and is always a booster. He knows what he knows and how to tell it. Only sixteen days to trade in be- | fore Christmas. Doesn't seem possible, but its true. Those who | are wise are doing their buying now. Its easy if you will watch the advertisements and then go to those stores and make your selections. Why put it off. especially when their are so many special offerings in Decatur stores this week? The sugar factory pay roll, including yards and factory and employes and truckmen is about 147,000 each two weeks and the first payment to beet growers on the 15th will be a quarter million dollars, less of course any advancements that have been made. Do you wonder that we become enthusiastic when talking about the Central Sugar Company? Thatt, real stuff. “Stop Roosevelt” is the cry from Wall street these days. Stop him from what? From restoring prosperity? From putting men back to work? From giving financial aid to those about to lose their farms or homes? From working constantly for the people? Well, if they stop him from these and thousands of other things he is doing. the nation will not deserve to go forward. Its easy to attack any one in office but when they are trying hard, giving of their strength and health, fighting every inch of the way to save the country, we can't believe that very many people will oppose them. 0 Answers To Test Questions Below a.e the Answers to the Teat Questions Printed on Page Two. • * 1. All of which will be bad news to Ue Hedgerow Players, in Rose Vai ley, Pennsylvania, where the actress usually returns once • year to work under her old director. The star is going around these days with her ankle tightly wrapped with bandages. As an army post child, she was kicked by a horse and still suffers recurring trouble from the bruised ligaments. As James Dunn tells it, an actor friend failed to keep an appointment at the studio for gallery photographs. That afternoon an ex ecutive called the player’s wife. She listened for a moment, then snapped: “You’re squawking just because he didn’t show up for pictures. What I want to know is why he didn’t show up for breakfast!” Lupe Velez has been seeing that Johnny Weissmuller stays home nights by the simple expedient of talking to him for hours on the telephone.
