The Democrats are fortunate indeed to have a leader like Dr. Carl B. McCulloch, wiping to devote his time and his great abilities to the work of organizing the state. He has been in politics a number of years, having been the candidate for governor in 1920 and 1924, is educated, wise and kindly and should go a long ways in getting all the various branches of the party clicking. He js just a plain, every day Democrat and belongs to no particular faction. He will carry the banner of democracy high in Indiana and will have the support of every one genuinely interested in clean politics and honest government.. William H. Woodin's resignation as secretary of the treasury, while not unexpected, caused much regret from numerous sources. The President did not accept it but i granted him a leave of absence, in hopes that he may recover his health, broken no doubt by the severe strain of the past eight i months. He will be succeeded j temporarily by Henry Morganthau, I Jr., of Albany, New York, a well qualified man and a close friend of Mr. Roosevelt. Dean Acheson, under secretary, has also resigned, effecetive Saturday and that place will be filled by Mr. Morganthau when Mr. Woodin returns from Arizona where, he is going to recuperate. These positions are heavy these days and require good health and a hundred pounds of up; and at 'em every hour of the day. I — Just when this country thought! it had settled the Philippine question of peace, here comes a new delegation from the little brown men to get some new legislation, from Congress, just at a time when ■ Congress has more than it can do I in its new session.
