JASPER BEATS BERNE JUNIORS Berne Legion Team Is Defeated In First Round Os State Tourney The Berne American Legion junior baseball team was eliminated from the state championship tourney at Princeton late Thursday at-, ternoon, losing to Jasper, 7 to 1. file game was originally scheduled to start at 1:30 p. m„ but was delayed nearly two hours by rain. P >rne scored its lone run in the Hist inning, while Jasper scored 'twice in the opening frame, four in tile fifth and one in tile sixth. Fewdetails of the game were available. Jasper obtained a total of seven hits off the hurling of Baker, while Berne hit safely only four times. ; Tlte winners played errorless ball, while Berne committed three misplays East Chicago defeated Richmond. 6 to 5, in the other game 1 Thursday and will meet Jasper for the state championship this afternoon. Fine Showing Decatur and Adams county have I reason to be proud of the tine showing made by the Berne team this season. The Berne juniors, spon-j sored by the Decatur Legion post, j made an excellent record during, the season and won the Fourth district tourney, held in this city, by defeating Geneva, Decatur and the Archer Truckers of Fort Waynetn successive rounds. Victory in tlte local tourney won Berne the right to compete in the, regional meet at Frankfort last week Berne won the regional by nosing out Peru in the opening game and then swamping Roachdale for the regional championship. By scoring victories in both the district and regional tourneys, the Berne team advanced farther in the American Legion's annual tourna-, meat titan any previous Adams I county team.
