JOE SAVOLDI i IS DEFEATED New York. June 13—(UP)—Jim Browning of Verona, Mo.. retained : his claims to the world -heavy < weight wrestling olwmpionship last night by winning a close decision I over ‘Jumping Joe" Savoldi. former Notre Dame grid star, after 1 hour 58 minutes and 5 seconds of grappling before 6.000 fans at Yankee stadium. Browning, recognized as titleholder in New York State, appeared the fresher and had piled uit more points when their scheduled finish match was halted because of the 11 o’clock curfew law. They wrestled on even terms during the first hour, with the champion 'pushing Savoldi with sev- j eral airplane scissors. Que depo- i sited the former football piayer on the edge of the ring, outside the ropes. Savoldi battered Browning with flying tackles, two of which smashed him to the mat. Just after the first hour. Savoldi I landed his only successful “drop kick." Leaping into the air, he planted both feet on Browning's i best and floored him violently. I Browning became more aggressive ' as Savoldi seemed to tire. Browning weighed 220 pounds Savoldi. 202. o Uncle Eben “If It had took ss long,* said Uncle Eben. “to creme de world as tt has took to find away to run tt, Adam an' Eve wouldn’ hah no Gar' den of Eden ready fob ’em yet ■Washington Star

man QS. ? with the HOEWffi The Handsome Annual Lupine A® i LUPINE The sehizanthus, which has he-I I come s,. popular for greenhouse i decorstmn in winter because of its j ■ great m«ss of bloom in striking I colors, is a fine garden annual. It , ' is known appropriately as the but-1 i terfly flower, from the dacty ap-J pearance of the winged and slash- . ed flowers poised above the ferny I i foliage. It comes in a variety of col- | ors, from deep purple to pink and white, all handsomely blotched with : a deeper color and with the charac-, teri«tic slashing of the pet Is. While seldom possible to equal ri. the garden the compact pillars i of bloom on display in greenhouses ! j during the winter months some- | thing like it can be accomplished by’ careful attention. Greenhouse plants are handtrained for months, the branches p? ched back often to produce the well-developed pl nt t of wide spread. They are also well fed. In the garden it is an airier, more graceful plant flocked with its attractive bloom, but inclined to sprawl, it oil’ be trained upright, but 'his isn’t worth the effort. Nor i is it worth while to bother to pinch it back outdoors, as it, braneties freely enough natundly. There are several strains of fine hybrids of this dainty annual, all of which are fj e. The Gtaraway. Badger and Wisetoniensis hybrids are commonly offiered. The last , named appear in a series of lighter shades. There are also selections of rose and amber shades. This is a fine annual to try as an ; odging plant in snuMl colonies, as ! it is a little beauty for close obser-' i vation. The foliage is also decora- | tive and ferny in baracter. Its main demand is for a good soaking occasionally in dry weather. It ■ shrivels during drought, it prefers I J' fairly heavy soil and will not do well in light sandy soils. It germin--1 ates readily and the plants should I be set about eight tache® apart. — —o— Political Feud Led to Statybing Portland, Ore—(U.R)—Like relig- | ion, politics is a serious question Ro a Negro. Irving Johnson, colored. went to a hospital with a knife wound in his side and the imprint of a woman's teeth on his arm because he disagreed with Mrs. Estelle Mqesley about Roosevelts economy program. o Hebrew Money The monetary system of the Hebrews was based upon the Babylonian system of weights. The ratio of the value of gold to silver was 1:1.3 1-3 and prevailed over all j western Asia.
