Representative MAKING GOOD: When the state legislature enacted the law providing for the revamping of the system of state government the leaders realized the work of doing that would be so ( great that the Governor was given until the last of June to complete the program. Several weeks ago. : Governor McNutt announced that I he expected to have the reorgan- , ization machinery in operation by i, the first of May and possiblly by |, the middllc of April. Many be-1, lieved that would be out of the ‘, question and utterly impossible, , but the Governor has made good ', his promise and the program is all set up ready to go. Few people of the state realize I, the enormity of the task that laced I Governor McNutt and his advisors ' j in tearing down a burdensome systern that had grown complex and costly ■over a period of years when ’’ the public gave little attention to L what was going on in state govern-I tnent circles. This alone would have been a great problem for the ■ new state administration to tackle.! Added to it was the enactment of! a progressive legislation program, , ' the serious banking situation and ! the endeavor to listen to the pleas i f thousands seeking connection » with the administration. The fact j, that all have received the keenest j, attention of Governor McNutt and , he has been able to adopt the pro- . of reorganization with it all is good evidence of his ability to serve under the most extreme circumstances and to serve success- « fully. At this point, when the reorganization machinery is erected and ; the number of public positions is 1 ra her definitely settled, it appears 1 that the estimate of the adminis- ! . tration for a savings of three mil- 1 lion dollars through this move, will ’ be fulfilled. Boards, bureaus and commissions will be grouped into ’ the eight major departments. Re- I adjustments that are on the pro- 1

gram provide for the saving of | hundreds of dollars through the elimination of superfluities iu services, through combinations of positions that will make for greater efficiency and through the reduction of salaries. The people of Indiana will shortlly have an opportunity to watch the new system at work, and undoubtedly, they will be as well pleased with its workings as they are with its economies and its representation of progress in government. Its here again—Clean-Up Week—starting next Tuesday morning when the city trucks will pick up the rubbish from the alley back of your house, provided you have it ; gathered and placed in containers so it can be handled easier and with more speed than otherwise. Get the yards raked and the cans and old rubbish out of the basement and yard. By request from the Civic Section of the Womans Club, the city council has fixed the Clean-Up Week a week earlier than usual this year. H. Fred Linn as | chairman of the street committee will assist in the planning and the city men under Commissioner Amos Fisher will see that the work is promptly and efficiently done. Those opposed to the repeal of the eighteenth amendment have i completed plans for a vigorous I campaign and will present their side of the question to those interested in meetings to be held over the county. So far as we have! learned those who favor the repeal, have held no organization meetings here and have not selected candidates. The question is an important one and the public should . have the arguments on either side before voting. The election will be held June 6th but candidates must tile with support of 500 hundred I signers to petitions by May 6th. Congress will probably grant . President Roosevelt the power to ! regulate the value of United States < urreney which would be a surrend|er of powers always held by congress—to coin and regulate the value of monies Many things are being done these days to straighten out a tangle that was apparently about to "bust” every one and every thing and those who have studied the great question, believe the President will succeed in putting over his plans. He has done wonderful things and with proper support will continue to do so. That lone bandit who is roaming around the country picking up eight [ to ten thousand dollars each time : he walks into a country bank should be met with a load of buckshot if it didn't do anything but disclose the identity of the' guy with so much nerve. For a long time these hold ups were pulled by gangs but recently the style seems to be to play it alone, thus saving any division of spoils or taking any chances on the other fellow telling tales. Adams county will have a quota of ten in the reforestation army, provided that many qualify. To get in on this the appllicant must be between 18 and 25 years of age, must be from a family that has received aid the past year and must agree to send $25 of the S3O he receives back to his dependents. Even at that, we presume, there will be more than enough appli[cants to fill ti c first order of 250,- [ 000 men in the United States. - The prices on about every thing started on a boom yesterday, foillowing President Roosevelt's order not to pay foreign accounts in gold and it is expected that the boom will continue. Wheat jumped about three cents and all other giaims wont up accordingly. Good times ere coming. Get yourself in condition to take advantage of the opportunities that will be presented. A rieiug market [is always best for every oue and it looks as though we are about to enjoy one.
