Mrs. Jimmy Walker has been granted a divorce and the ex-t.ayor can now sky lark with his girl friend from the Follies to his heart's content. And he probably will. ’ j The Republican state committee will not contest the law which postpones the city elections in Indiana until next year when it will be held in junction with the regular election. Attorneys declare the law is valid and a contest would be expensive and without results. So hat's that evidently. Tlte flood danger is not over it seems. Rains now with every stream at flood stage would within i a few hours cause untold damage. I Conditions now are very similar to ! those in 1913 when the middle west suffered its greatest losses by floods. Mr. Hoover is back at Paia Alto, ; lifornia. just an ordinary, every j day citizen and says he is glad o£ ■ it. News stories declare he looks greatly improved in health. That's | fine and we all wish him well. Woperhaps don't realize the worries: and cares of a president, especially ( du .g days like those of the past ; four years. The greatest respect' is due any man who has thus served i the nation, — Babe Ruth will be dishing out! home runs again this year. Any | way he has been hired for that! purpose after the annual alte; ! cation with tho Yankee manager. He was cut from $75,000 to $50,000 and fina'ly agreed on $52,000. That’s a lot of money yet but the Babe draws several times that during the year, for thousands of fans go to see him that would other- ] wise remain away from the park. I yiembers of congress, or rather| a few of them, seem anxious to i rebel against the president and on i each occasion when an important! hilt is up, threaten to bolt but al- j •vays the legislation desired by the, administration goes over with many votes to spare. The public is supporting Mr Roosevelt in his plans to revive business conditions and LQANSNii Every family —at one time or another—needs extra funds to meet unusual and unexpected expenses, or to pay off an accumulation of old bills. You can get the money you need here any amount tip to S3OO —promptly, conveniently, and confidentially. Let us explain our liberal, helpful plan. *A FRANKLIN AX SECURITY CO. .mSX Phone 237 Decatur, Indiana

they are not fooling any more I than he is. Charles Mitchell was until a rew weeks ago considered one of Americas leading bankers. The Senate committee began an investigation of his financial affairs with (the result that he suddenly resigned as the head of one of the greatI est banks in the world. Now It de- ( velops that he deliberately transferred stocks to his wife to avoid i paying income tax to the amount (of more than six hundred thousand : dollars and he has been arrested. | ■He w'ill close an otherwise great ■ career in disgrace perhaps and all because he attempted to evade an i I obligation he owed his country. — The proposal of Senator Jones i that the government issue thirty, (billion dollars worth of bonds to exchange for long time farm mort gages may seem radical but did it > ever occur to you that it will take i some legisation of that kind to gel us out of our present predicament? The mortgages will extend for a I long time, probably twenty years, i j making it easier to meet the payjments and will relieve banks, in-1 jsurance corpanies and others now jburdened with paper that is not' •liquid. There is much to think 1 (about in this proposal If its a (good thing it should bo done nowland not a year or two from now and if not, we should forget it and seek other methods of relief. Every operator of a motor ve-; hide will be required to purchase a driver's license annually at a cost of 50 cents. This charge includes the notary fee. The new law fixes April 1 as the date that j 1933 driver's lieeases must be obtained. Thereafter these licenses : must be renewed Jan. 1. Frank I Finney, head of the motor vehicle license department, announced that an extension of time will be given this year as it will be impossible ( for the department to issue all the new licenses by April 1. Operators of branch license bureaus will be permitted to deduct Mt cents from the 50-eent fee to compensate them for notary services. Aj heretofore the sworn application for a license must be certified by an owner of real estate who knows the applicant personally and “believes him to be a person qualified to operate <i motor vehicle.’’-ludiauapolls Star.
