Chicago 415 Lexington Avenue, New York Charter Member of The Indiana League of Home Dailies. Do your Christmas shopping early. It's more important this year than ever. The Adams county Democrats spent $1,112 and no doubt feel it was worth it to roll up majorities as high as 3.400. Os course times are not what we would like them but they won't be improved by complaining. Buckle in and go after old man depression. He can be licked if we don't weaken. A smile is the best weapon. Notre Dame went to New York City Saturday and showed the Army and 80,000 spectators that they still know a few things about the great game of football, winning 21 to 0 and outplaying their rivals 'jvery minute of the game. The Democratic central committee has a deficit of about S6O but of course the winners of so great s victory as that of November Sth will soon fix that up. Send in a few dollars and let's get out of the “red.'' Republicans in the next congress propose to show their good faith in their recent platform, by rushing through a bill repealing the eighteenth amendment, whi c h Would probably just suit the Democrats. for it would relieve them of eettrtg upon the always ticklish issue, prohibition. Dedatur stores are filled with beautiful gilts tor the Christmas ecjson and you will be surprised a' the low cost. You can find just what you want foi mother. father, bi other. sister or sweetheart, bet ter than ever for a little money. The Christmas season should really mean more this year. The Mt. Pleasant school is in tune with the present situation. ■ nnd to assist the United Charities in taking care of the poor have donated a large supply of clothing and a basket of food. They secured this by asking patrons to a Thanksgiving entertainment to pay admission by gifts of this kind. It's a fine way to meet the emergencies winch now prevail so general. Those foreign countries which are asking further postponement cl war debts are the same that put up such a pitiful plea a year ago. The trouble is that they won't be any more able to pay tn another year, for Its largely in their minds. This country will be more than fair with tuem but are sick and tired of being made the "goat" as

they have for some time. Its high time we looked after ourselves, The sugar factory at Paulding, Ohio, is running full time, making . a better showing than in many years and the farmers are more than pleased with their results. . Ou the fifty-fifty contract, it is said they will receive about $5.75 per ton for their beets which average j better than ten tons to the acre, iWe are hoping the big mill here can be operated next year and we are sure the fullest cooperation will be given by every one. if the opportunity is offered. The Decatur high school basketball team is not starting the season off with the victories so much desired by the fans but its a long time until tournament time and we are sure every one will be pleased : with the team when it is ready for the finals. Usually we start off with a string of victories, reach the peak and then lose in the tournaments. Perhaps Coach Herb Curtis is working it the other way this season. The reduction of cost of government in the county is commendable and we have heard Lew objections hut we doubt if any one. even those who fixed the budgets, really favor! the entire doing away with the i small expense necessary to continue cooperation with the Irene Byron hospital. In the long run we would not save by that, but cause greater expense by permitting the fight against tuberculosis to abate. Some idea of the interest being manifested in the Farm Bureau organization was Evidenced here today when several hundred men and women gathered to listen to . lectures from officials and from I Purdue experts on the marketing of farm products. It was of particular interest here because of the tact that the bureau is opening a i central poultry and produce plant here to serve as the base tor that j business in seven or eight counties in this section. They have taken over the Decatur Prouduce ‘ Company's fine plant here and will' operate it in the future. -: _J Test our Knowledge • , Can you answer seven of these test questions?
