AMONG the strangest of all jinxes that have featured the history of sport is the Yale-Dartmouth jinx. The big i Green team has come to the Yale Eowl a heavy favorite time after time, but never have they been able to come through with a victory. No matter how terrible a Yale team may be, no matter how many games the Eli gridmen have lost previous to the Dartmouth engagement, when Yale plays Dartmouth, Yale becomes an unbeatable team. On end off for fiftv years Dartmouth has hoped for a victory over Yale, but each new season only brings a more heart-breaking disappointment. This year. Dartmouth rooters were certain that the Hanover In-

FIVE BIMEN TILTS ON CARD Chicago, Nov IS.—(U.R>—The Big Ten's football show ends tomorrow with five - conference games, two of which will decide the 1932 I championship. The schedule foilcvs. Michigan at Minnesota. Indiana at Purdue. Wisconsin at Chicago. lowa at Northwestern. Ohio State at Illinois. , The two games bearing on the i championship are the MichiganMinnesota battle at Minneapolis and the Indiana-Purdue contest at ; Lafayette. Michigan can win the I title on tight by defeating Minneni regardless of what Purdue jrfocs If Purdue loses. Michigan can lose to Minnesota and also win !*'■ If Michigan ties Minnesota, and Purdue wins, the Wolverines and ooiiermakers will tie for the Title If Michigan loses and Purrino wing, the title will go to Pur--1 due Notre Dame wi'.l make its last ■ stand in the west against the Navy at Cleveland. The game will draw 65.000 or more, the largest crowd of the season in the midwest. After the navy game. Notre Dame plays Army in New York and Southern California in Los Angeles. Two other important games in this section are the Michigan State- . Detroit clash at East Lansing, and the Washington & Jefferson-Mar-quette intersectional affair at Milwaukee. Michigan, because of its undefeated. untied record, is favored over Minnesota, which has lost to Purdue. 7-0, and Wisconsin. 20-12. but the game is far from a setup. The odds are against Minnesota hut the Gophers are apt to push the Wolverines to the limit to win. If Minnesota's defense should stop Harry Newman's running and passing, there is a good chance that the Gophers will get a tie. Minnesota hasn't beaten Michigan since 1927, but the game has

dians would finally blast that old jinx sky high. Dartmouth had Hashed a powerful team in previous games, while Yale had played wretchedly. Dartmouth, undefeated, seemed a sure thing to whip a Yale team which had yet to win a game at that point in the season. Alas for Dartmouth’s hopes! When the game was over, Yale had chalked up their first victory of the season and the Dartmouth players walked disconsolately off tbe field with the derisive laughter of Old Man Jinx ringing in their ears. Another gridiron jinx which seems to have established itself pretty securely has to do with “Pop” Warner and Howard Jones. Howard appears to have old "Pop’s” number, and this year his Southern California team, under-

always been close. Bill Hewitt's 56-yard run won last year's game for Michigan, 7-0. The year before Jack Wheeler's punt return won the game by the same score. In 1929 the point after touchdown was Michigan’s margin if victory.. Purdue is a heavy favorite over Indiana, but dope usually means little in this traditional game and the Hoosiers are likely to prove stubborn foes for the unbeaten, but tied. Boilermakers. The Wisconsin-Chicago game will probably mark A. A. Stagg's finish as a Big Ten football coach after 41 years of faithful service on the midway. Wisconsin is favored. but a Chicago victory is by no means a remote possibility with Pete Zimmer, a dazzling halfback, returning to action after nursing injuries. Illinois will attempt to get into first division with a surprise vic- , tory over Ohio State's strong team.i Two o fthe Big Ten's best backsj

dogs before the game, once again trounced Warner's Red Indian? from Stanford. That makes the fifth year in a row that Jones' I teams have taken Pop’s elevens over the jumps! Thea there is a notable streak which has been rolled up by Purdue’s Boilermakers in the past few seasons. This year they broke the modern record of scoring at least one touchdown in thirty-live straight games, which had been rolled up by Notre Dame several years ago. This is a very remark able feat when you consider tbe type of opposition which Purdue faces in the Big len Conference. To go on avoiding a shut out yeat after year as the Boilermakers have done is really accomplishing a marvelous gridiron feat. Uavrrl<te4, IMI. Kinfl FwUima Syndicate Inc
