WILL ENFORCE HIGHWAY LAW Indlanalpolls, Ind.. June 16 —The' -.late highway commission and the, state police of the secret try of state's office, are making iprepura tione to enforce the 1931 truck | wrigC’.t and size limitation law, which will start July 1. According to John J. Brown, highway department director, state! policemen will be assisted by regu-1 larty employed state road main b nance forces, whose work keep ' them on the roads and who are In a position to check the weight and | size of vehicles. Constitutionality of this law was upheld recently by Judge Russell J. Ryan in the Marion County Su parlor Court, Room 5, in a litigation brought by trucking interests seeking to enjoin its enforcement. Tito "statute became effective: January 1. 1932. but was held up by j the-court action. In pissing this' law, the last General Assembly I gave ti;uek and buss owners one year in which to regulate their ve hioltes to meet the laws requirements. This law will work a saving, ac- ■ cording to A. H. Hinkle, mainten- ! ance superintendent, through its luolection of many miles of roads di-velojrtMi at a cost of millions of dollars. Unrestricted load weights, now are breaking down even the | most costly pavement slab. Attention was also called to the safety provision in the law. The | eduction in the extreme lengths of vehicles, some of which have bean 65 and even SO feet or more, with restriction of the width of busies and trucks, means a notable contribution to sifer highwaytravel. The load limits under the i new law, officials declare, mean a savings of thousands of dollars i annually on old and obsolete bridges in the state highway system, which can not withstand the ' extreme weights to which they now are subjected. Some of the outstanding feature;;l of the new law. enforcement of which starts July 1, are: No vehicle shall exceed a total maximum heigiht, including load thereon, of twelve feet. No vehicle shall exceed a total j maximum width of eight feet, in-j chiding the load. No single vehicle shall exceed a length of thirty-three feet, and no I together shall exceed a total length of forty feet. For the purpose of this act a semi-trailer shall be con-
