The action of congress in refusing to Include those clerks in the government's employ who are drawing $2,500 or less in the ten per cent cut was popular with the employes who cheered from the gal leries but it may not take so well with the fellow back home who is lucky if he hasn't taken a fifty per cent, cut and he will have to be considered before long The election next November will give the people their chance and they seem to be the temper to use it. Republican leaders and the press are going to b» greatly disappoint cd when the Democrats meet in June if they don't stage another hot convention as they did in NewYork in '24. They dig up every little scrap they can and try to make it appear as though the party was torn in shreds. We don't believe it is. Os course with the outlook for a victory this year, candidates are pulling every string they , can to win the nomination, but it ] will lie a winning, happy crowd of j delegates that select the nominees j in the big convention and they are, going out to win. Why the Banks and the People Should Work Together Life as we live it today could not exist without banks. Think of trying to carry on trade on a man to man, hard cash basis! There would be no checks, no currency to speak of, and none of the convenient forms of paper credit on which we depend today. » Men and women would have to carry heavy cash around at the risk of their lives. Business could not be conducted without bulky shipments of gold and silver, with guns and men to guard them. Without banks the commercial world would slow down to the ox-cart pace of a thousand years ago. Few of the inventions, luxuries, enjoyments and accomplishments of our present-day civilization would exist. r ' The banks of today serve mankind. Banks provide the facilities by which manufacturers buy raw material and employ labor; they enable merchants to buy goods and sell them to the public; they benefit the farmer, the wage-earner and every individual. Employment of people and the life of business depend upon the banks. c The banks and the people should work together. * PKK3IDENT / INDIANA BANKERS ASSOCIATION ... - . .
