DIVING PLANES HIT HIGH SPEED London (U.R) Britain has captured another world air speed record. 4O7Mf nillea an hour in vertical dives from 20.000 and 26,000 feet. This record recent has been attained by a number of British sinxle-seater fighting planes of the Itoyal Air Force durin gtrials to test the structural strength and streamlining of the machines. Although diving speed is not included in recognized performance tests, the ability of a military air- 1 plane to withstand the stresses imposed at "terminal velocity" with-1 out structural lailure is of first im-' isntance.
