Mar. 14- (U.R) —Sixteen high school basketball teams iiemained undefeated today of the i 7117 quintets that started out hopei fully two weeks ago in quest of the , slate championship — the highest honor in Hoosier interscholastic I sportdom. ! They will battle here next Friday jand Saturday in the final rounds lot the 1932 net ch mpionships. I Four of the teams never have rcach- ! i d the finals since the present tour- , nament sys ent was inaugurated in I 1921. and the majority or the others have played in only on? or two 'championship rounds. The second round of elimination last Saturday caused the downfall ! of a host of pre-tourney favorites. Among these were Muncie, defendl ing champions. Frankfort. Logansport. Marion, Emerson of Gary, and Bedford. Only two of the surviving teams -.verp lis.ed among the leaders befor the elimination started, and 'many observers anticipated today that these two —Vincennes and Technical of Indianapolis — would me t Saturday night in the tinals. Vincennes is regarded as superior in the upper bracket, upon comparisons of season's records, and Tech appears to be outs anding in tiie lower bracket. Only three of last year's finalists are included in this year's list. They are Greencastle, Wiley of Terre Haute, and Bluffton. The four teams that never have played in the final round before, under the present system, are Lebanon. Cicero. Seymour and Bosse of Evansville. Lebanon, however, w.is sale champion in 1912. 1917 and 1918 under the old system. The only other former state champion participating in this years finals is Vincennes, winner in 1923. Vincennes lias participated in five j final tourneys. Among the other 1932 finalists. Newcastle. Columbia City. Win i- . mac. Bluffton. Michigan City and i Tech each has earned its way to the finals only ones. Wiley ot Terre Haute and Delphi have participated in the final round twice. Greencastle end Columbus Have journeyed to Indianapolis three times tor final ropnd participation and Connersville has played in four championship rounds. Frankfort will be absent from the final round this year for the first time since the system was inaugurated. Frankfort was defeated Saturday afternoon by on. 22 to 16. Muncie, the 1931 champions, may protest the defeat by Newcastle because of indecision on the part of officials concerning the eligibility of a long shot made by Thoman of Newcastle just as the game ended Amidst a scene of . confusion which police were called to quiet, officials first ruled that the shot was made after the final gun. Later however, the decision was reversed and the game awarded to Newcastle with a score of 20 to 19. Newcastle nosed out a 15 to 13 victory over Winchester in the final battle. Indianapolis. Mar. 11.
