" Santa Claus and His Dog Team 1 1 SANTA CLAUS WILL ARRIVE HERE DECEMBER 5— ( hildren of County Rejoice as Date of Visit Nears
Speeding through cities and towns and villages, traveling mostly at night because of the number of cars and trucks on the highways, Santa Claus and his party are nearing Decatur and now only the most tragic and unexpected catastrophe can prevent their arrival here on schedule, Saturday morning, December 5. From 10:30 o’clock Saturday morning until evening, the children of Decatur and Adams county will be entertained by the famous old saint, who without doubt is the most distinguished visitor to the town or the county in all the years of their history, duction and to destroy foreign markets for American cotton.” The association urged enactment of the following legislation' “To prevent further direct stabilization operations and provide for a liquidation of the existing stocks of cotton in as orderly a fashion as possible. “Prohibit further indirect sta-| bilization operations in the form of loans made without reference | to the value of the cotton and without any provision as to the maintenance of adequate marginal requirements; and prohibit further contracts, express or implied, under which the board furnishes hte margins to enable the cooperatives to maintain a large speculative interest in the futures and spot markets agreeing not to close them out until the contracts reach a certain value.” I Increased activity upon the part' of the agriculture department to better the cotton industry was I urged by Garrow, who credited the department with doing much in aiding the producer. “The policies followed by thej farm board, on the other hand, in : Its attempts to equalize agriculture, will bankrupt any industry I in the world,” he said. Chairman James C. Stone and I Carl Williams, cotton member of the board, testified before the committee yesterday. Stone presented to the committee the board's annual report detailing operations which showed paper losses on stabilization wheat now owned to average 27 cents a bushel plus carrying charges. Without computing losses on wheat already disposed of nor including I carrying charges, the farm board | is out approximately $50,000,000 on paper. The paper loss on cotton now held is approximately $72,000,000. The paper loss per pound on cotton is about 11 Vi cents, including carrying charges. This paper loss represents almost onefourth of the entire farm board appropriations of $500,000,000. Both board members were bombarded by western republicans and democrats demanding to know why E. F. Creekmore of the cotton stabilization corporation was’ paid $75,000 a year and George S. Milnor of the grain stabilization corporation $50,000 a year. Stone said the board wanted good men and got them. ARRIVALS Mr. and Mrs. Paul Reynolds 909 Third street, are the parents of a boy baby born at the Adams County Memorial Hospital, Tuesday.
