The concern plans within the next three years to increase the sales until they will be a profitable outlet for the entire surplus of California’s $350,000,000 grape industry. RECRUITS SR AIN FOR COP PATROL Harrisburg Pa. —(UP) —The athletic facilities provided for candidates for the Pennsylvania High- : way Patrol at the training school j here rival those of a first-class l university. A large field provides space for baseball in spring and summer; football ill autumn: and soccer in ■ winter. In addition it serves to train the embryo patrolmen in handling ; the motorcycles they use. Recently an oval track, one-third of a mile in circumference, has been arranged. Plans are now proceeding for, construction of a large swimming ] pool. A well-equipped gymnasium | provides for indoor activities.

INSTRUMENT FOR ZERO MILE POST OF WORLD Greenwich Observatory To Have Modern Telescope Washington, —(UP) The World’s zero mile post is to have a new set of instiuments, according to a dispatch received recently by the National Geographic Society. The Grenwich Abservatory, near London, England, is probably tne' most widely known observatory in the world, due to the fact that most I maps mark Grenwich as zero longitude. The center of the observatory tower on Flamsteed Hill, two and one-half miles below Loudon, on I the Thames, is the official zero longitude t'o rvertually all navigators. For some time, before the advent of transatlantic cables, Washington was the zero maik for American geographers, due to the fact that ■ l no correct signal could be sent be--1 tween England and the United I States, but following the circling of the globe by cables Greenwich became known as the gerol mile post An unpretentious borough patch | of London, the first observatory, es-1 tablished by Charles II at Green wich in 1675, was without instruI ments, but John Flamsteed, first | Astronomer Royal enlisted the aid 1 of friends for his pet project, and Grenwich, by ‘he time of his death] in 1719 had reached a position of world renown.
